Okay! Here's my write up for this week's recommendations from @nohandstoholdonto

    Cheem - Downhill
I really really liked this album. I feel like on the first listen I liked it initially, but it seemed sort of the same all the way through. After many more listens though, I found that's definitely not the case. There's a lot of interesting and complex things happening here, especially with the harmonies and rhythms. The drummer just goes crazy on most of these songs, but it totally fits and doesn't at all seem like they're just being a show-off. They also jump back and forth between slower sections to loud indie-punk parts with incredible ease; they've truly mastered the art of dynamics ha. I think there's two singers? And one of them kind of reminds me of the singer from Panic! At The Disco in a way (but I don't listen to them that much, so I could be totally wrong there haha.) I kind of get some vibes from early 2000's emo bands, like a little bit of early FOB or Say Anything, especially on Mumble. I can't quite place it, but they remind me of a specific band I can't think of right now. The fact that this is 15 songs long is crazy, because it always just seems to fly by whenever I listen to it, and it doesn't seem bloated or full of filler at all, in my opinion. Overall this is a stellar album full of excellent indie-punk-poppy songs.

    The Internet - Ego Death
This album was kind of different than what I normally listen to, but I still thoroughly enjoyed it. I don't know if I've ever listened to a full album of R&B or Soul. But it was super chill and groovy (two words I rarely use haha). I feel like I could still use some more listens of this to truly grasp everything that's happening, because I mostly just listened to the general vibe and "landscape" they were painting with all the songs. The structure of some of their songs are super interesting, like the first song, Get Away, almost sounds like you're jumping in mid-song, if that makes sense. I also love the intro to Partner's in Crime Part Three. It sounds like the melody she's singing is to a different chord progression than what the bassist is playing, and it never really feels like it resolves. It threw me off the first time I heard it, but now I love it and think it's the coolest thing ever. The production is great on all these songs, and I feel like I'll steal some of the things they do here to use on some of my own songs, especially Something's Missing.

So yeah, another week of great albums. I can see myself returning to these in the future.

Also, I was recommended a third album, Antiphon by Alpha Mist, but didn't get a chance to listen to it enough to do an actual write up on it :(

    Here’s my thoughts on Augustana-Augustana:

Overall, it was an enjoyable record. This band definitely knows how to write some hooks. The first two songs drew me in big time, and honestly were my two favorites of the whole album. My first listen through I did feel a little disappointed nothing came close to how good those songs were with the exception of the closer, but the album as a whole is still solid. The lyrics aren’t anything special in my opinion, but it’s still a fun listen. I get an extremely strong Killers vibe from this album honestly, it’s like if they chose to just go full Americana. I love the use of piano in the songs, as I’m a sucker for good piano parts. I’m not sure how much I would revisit the whole album, but I would definitely come back to the three songs I listed, especially the first two.

    Thanks for the rec @duritzfan13!

First off, I’m not really into this band or style of music. Kevo made me listen to 2 of their albums before, but I saw tons of praise so I was hoping my mind would change.
Right off the bat I immediately liked the synth touches they added throughout this album to give it a bit of a modern flair. Those additions made songs like “Miracle” stand out. I wasn’t as into the standard 2007-style rock songs, but I don’t think a single song was bad. Still not quite up my alley but it has potential to grow and I’ll give it more listens to please my friends

Miracle is my favourite so I'm glad you enjoy that one, glad you at least enjoyed the album and feel it has potential to grow. The synths and Aaron Sprinkles top notch production really makes it pop.

You come up with them together through PM trade 1-3 albums or EPs. Up to you to decide.

After your agreed post them here, then later in the week do a little write up/review sharing your thoughts on the albums you checked out.

    Here's what I was recommended by @LuigiPeppercorn

American Gospel - Tall Tales, Vol 1

There's a pretty interesting mix of sounds here. It's kind of folk-rocky, but with horn laden choruses and moments that veer into 90s alternative ("Better Off"), dancy radio pop ("I Know"), or slow synthy rock -- plus sax ("I'll Never Let You Go"). The singer's voice kinda reminds me a bit of Nate Reuss. I enjoyed the haunted vibe of "Hunting Boar", and I loved the full-on folk of "The Woods"/"The Falling Feeling". I tried to find more information on the band, but a quick Google search didn't yield much, and it doesn't appear that there was a Tall Tales, Vol 2. Regardless, I liked it and I'm likely to revisit it.

    Duffy - Rocksteady

I remember when "Mercy" was all over adult pop radio, and I remember seeing the album for sale at Starbucks. I found those memories fitting, because the album definitely has that safe, trendy mom vibe to it. That's not a knock against it, though. She's got a great voice, and the production on this is huge. The soft rock structure is supplemented throughout by string sections, and they really elevate tracks like "Warwick Avenue". A large part of this album is how much it calls back to styles of the 60s & 70s, and her voice is well suited to it. "Serious" is a standout in that regard. Other favorite moments include the choir on the hook of "Holding On Too Long" and the saxophone on "Distant Dreamer". I enjoyed the album overall. Not quite what I normally listen to, but well done. I wanted to make the joke that her follow-up should be called Bebop, but a little research revealed that she did release a second album in 2010 and missed out on that opportunity.
