Glad to hear it man, that’s great. This upcoming week is hell. Two finals, a short paper, and a ten page paper. But on the plus side, the final for my other class is the following week and that’s all I’ll have to worry about that week. I just need to bust my ass and I think I might be able to actually pass these classes

 

I felt a lot freer when I decided passing was my goal as opposed to making a great grade. As long as I feel like I got something out of it, I'm okay. I hope that feeling translates to you. What's the long ass paper on? Lmk if you need me to kick you off chorus again lol

 

You’ll probably have to kick me off this weekend. It’s kind of up to me. For the primary source, I chose Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? For the thesis I’m talking about how the book uses empathy in order to gauge one’s humanity however, if that is the case, then it suggests that the androids are not only on the same level as humans, but possible even more human than we are. Or something like that, I haven’t refined it. The issue is that it’s not just that I have to answer the thesis, but I have to answer it through two of the main modes of criticism. Formalist is the easy go to, but I dunno what the other one will be. Possibly intertextuality....I dunno. Most of my secondary sources are formalist papers.

 

that's why analysis is so much easier than criticism, and why im in history and not english lol

 

Yeah, to be honest, I feel a little in over my head on this one. I know I have enough evidence to prove what I’m trying to say. It’s just applying the theories that is gonna fuck me up

 

Ooh that sounds super interesting, can I read that when you're done? Intertextuality tends to be my go to because I feel like that's how we tend to process things. You don't consume stuff in a vacuum so it stands to reason you wouldn't analyze or criticize it that way either

don't you criticize in history too? As in, isn't part of the point (though I suppose maybe not in a classroom setting) to utilize it to forge different futures?

 

Yeah, historians do but I don't really, haha. I'm only really concerned with a book inasmuch as it offers insight or otherwise relates to the history around it, not as literature or art. But that's because my theses are made around answering a question or a prompt rather than attempting to break new ground that might impact how we see the past and thus the future. That's what historians do.

 

Thanks dudes. I appreciate it. I've been in a pretty bad place all semester, so school stress has been affecting worse than it normally would. I freaked out. My professor still hasn't got back to me to tell me what the consequences are (she's out of the country right now), but I'm at the point now that I just don't give a shit. Pass, fail, I'm still going to graduate next year whether its in the Spring or Fall and get on with my life.

There's definitely nothing wrong with retail work either. I've been in the service industries for eleven years, but the point of me going to college in the first place was to get out of it. Hopefully, I still can. It wouldn't be the end of the world if I don't, but it would definitely be disappointing.

 

I finally got to talk to my calc professor this morning about my grade but she wasn't much help. First she told me "Just pass the final exam and then we'll see what we can do" but then she told me "If you do well on the final exam and have been doing all your homework, you should be able to pass". Seems like some mixed messages. I went back later in the day to ask what grade I need to get on the exam and to remind her about the extra credit she has given over the semester (because I'm pretty confident she forgot about that) but of course she wasn't there despite her door saying she has office hours at that time

 

If you have been doing good, then you'll get a good grade. Yeah, no fuckin shit. This is a non-answer. Clearly you wouldn't be asking this shit if you thought you were doing well lol.

 

I mean she did look at my exam grades and saw how bad they were, but just telling me to do well on the final and maybe i'll pass wasn't the answer I was looking for lol

 

All done classes. I have 5 days to write a 2000 word paper analysing some feature of a social media platform and then I’m on Christmas break. The paper is due today but I got caught up with other stuff and the prof gives us late days we can use. I’d like to to do it sooner rather than later though since I expected to be free by now. Someone make me do it

 

My favorite part of being an English major might be the part where I commoditize (is this a word?) myself to write other ppls essays for $$$. /s

lol, in the past 3 hours I have written an entire paragraph of my ten page paper. ugh. it's like I'm scared to start cause then I'll be in the thick of it

 

I'm gonna give it a shot. It actually has to be 2300 words aw man

 

weee my final grades are in and my web design professor gave me a B. (my final grade was I think a 79.9% so it should have been a given but you never know)

anyway now my gpa is a 3.0! This is incredible considering how many classes I've failed haha
