Almost a third of the way into the season and Rapids are in sole possession of first. Who had that on their prediction list?

Little by little is the best way to get into the sport! A lot of really good international tournaments this summer with the Euros and Copa America. Should be a fun time in here around those. Euro 2012 really cemented my love for the sport.

Yeah, gathered that from Twitter a bit later. You should join me in the Swansea fandom. We're usually good enough to avoid relegation and good enough to steal points from top clubs. Lots of heart and style!

I really admire the work rate by Son on that goal (and beautiful assist), but how was Kane not a direct influence into the goalkeeper confusion by being in an offside position on that goal? Totally blanking on what the proper term for that is.

He didn't touch nor attempt to touch the ball.

Yeah, he did really good with not moving towards it and think overall it's the right call. But it was close enough to him (looked within a yard, really) that it completely caused the entire defense and goalkeeper to assume offsides. I've definitely seen the same thing called against Barcelona before. Just trying to figure out what the difference is, I guess? Is what I'm thinking of something that can only be called on free kicks where an offside player is blocking the ability of the goalkeeper?

Why can't I remember the name? It's not infringement? Impeding?

    Edit: Obstruction! That's the term.

I was trying to describe myself to someone

Eugh. I am so pissed off with yesterday's results.

Newcastle were absolutely ridiculous against Villa. They had all the directional fire power of a fart in a stiff breeze. Cisse shouldn't be anywhere near a starting position. He's absolutely dreadful. Villa were hardly even there. Although, their fan protest of throwing inflatables onto the pitch was an absolute dick move.

And Sunderland. While they fought hard for that win, they got so much luck to do so. Two goals took deflections to go in (although that thunderous volley from Kharkiff (sp?) might have been going in anyway) and then the third was a cross going straight to a Chelsea CB's head before someone stuck a leg out and dropped it right on Defoe. Fuuuuuck it!

That was a beautiful move on the equalizer. Deserved. This game is hopping.

La Liga is going to be absolutely wild today. All ten games happening simultaneously (second to last week of the season, so not sure why they're still not staggered like usual), with a crazy variety of scenarios for shaking up the top 3. Barca could clinch today, or drop all the way to third and be out of the title hunt. The battle for Europa league spots/order will also be highly contested today. (All three immediate champions league spots are assured to the top three a few weeks ago, and Villareal would have to have an epic collapse to not be certain of fourth.)

Edit: And 18 vs 19 in a direct relegation battle.

Nice goal and everything Southampton but I'm still mad at you for dumping Walcott and Oxlade-Chamberlain on us.

Things just got more interesting in La Liga (at least from a Barca fan's perspective) as Madrid are down four starters (Keylor, Bale, Modric, Carvajal) to injuries facing a very tough Valencia team (Ronaldo will probably show his value as he always does in these situations) and Atleti don't have Griezzman or Godin because of card accumulation today, either.

Granada fighting to stay up at Sevilla, who is fighting for an Europa spot, is also going to be electric as it's a huge regional rivalry.

Basically, I wish more people besides me and @Dani actively watched La Liga.

Ozil out and Giroud starts today. Not the best news heading into the third-fourth place play off.

Was just looking at the teams who have qualified for the champions league next season already. The Madrid Derby final is one of the best possible results for Leicester (esp. if Barca win the league*) as they get to avoid a Madrid team, Barca*, Bayern, Juventus, PSG, Sporting/Benfica, and the winner in Russia in the group stages.

I'd love to see Leicester in the knock out rounds so hard.

Espanyol off to another dirty start. Classic.

Torres has made a legit case to be Spain's first choice striker for the Euros this spring. Amazing turnaround... but I also don't think he'll even make the squad. Has Atleti up 1-0 within minutes of the game starting.
