The mood was really weird in here earlier, so I typed up a joke this morning with you tagged in it, but never posted it. Then forgot that posts never really get deleted for a while, so when I responded to @Kingjohn_654 my 'draft post' was still in there so I edited right away.

Con: people always want you to sign stuff
Pro: people pay you to sign stuff

 

pro: i get a cool stamp that i get to stamp on things
cons: i have to get up to sign things, and then things like this:

we have a person that comes in frequently who is a sovereign citizen. they creates their own tax documents from scratch and prints them off with about 5 copies of each document. they'll easily bring in a stack of 20-30 papers for me to notarize for their taxes. they claims $0 income on everything even though they probably make 75k+ a year doing what they do and then request the feds refund them all of their federal taxes automatically taken out of their paycheck throughout the year.

i've also had a person yell at me for refusing to notarize their partners signature that signed the document at home and couldn't come with them to get it notarized. they didn't understand that that's exactly like the most basic requirement for me to notarize something so i couldn't believe they didn't understand why i had to refuse them.

 

notaries can technically charge up to like $2 a notarization i believe + federal mileage rate if we travel (i don't). i can't charge to notarize a document when im at work though, which is the only place i do notarize things. so i don't make any money :(

i mean i get paid to work, being a notary is just part of the job, so technically yes i get paid, but not specifically for notarization

 

I thought you could be a notary just randomly in addition to your regular life, and charge people fees. Who the F am I always paying $25 to when I need shit notarized

 

go to your bank or local library branch. none of the ones around here charge. personal notaries and traveling/mobile notaries will charge tho. varies by state. im in MO
