My BSN deluxe might be my most prized vinyl.
And it’s my least favorite of their records.

    Go figure.

aside from stuff on The Amulet, are there any other overtly political/socially conscious Circa songs or songs that can be interpreted as such? Anthony Green has got to be the most enigmatic, perplexing lyricists I've ever come across. Hes my fucking kryptonite at times. Like not all Circa songs are that lucid or arduous but then theres quite a few songs or even just lyrical passages that I have either no interpretation for or like, 3 interpretations for. sometimes trying to understand what hes saying is like....well, like trying to get Blood From A Stone

I have all the full lengths minus BSN, which I would actually like to have if it got repressed. I also really want Appendage, that's near perfect

I was thinking because of the short story it's named after but that actually sounds familiar

Birth of the economic hit man sounds political. Not sure if it actually is tho.

Wasn't most of violent waves about Anthony's struggles with supporting his family? Like him going through the motions and finding out who his true friends were during the tough times?

I could be way off, but I thought I read an interview with him talking about that stuff.

That one always struck me as being about personal connection with art and reconciling it with relations to people. But who even knows

Birth Of The Economic Hit Man is about Anthony having his first child, as well as the band's experience being on a major label.

Anthony does write about religion a lot, particularly on OLG, and it's all over this album too. However, I don't think many Circa songs, even on the Amulet, are political - at least not in the way a band like say Thursday's are. The closest I can think of maybe in that regard is "Most Dangerous Commercials."

I can’t believe that and 1000 witnesses are b sides. I adore both those songs.

They're TOO good, according to Anthony. Also I think they're too heavy, and would have set an unrealistic precedent for the band at the time

i think OLG is probably the heaviest Circa record but yeah they would stick out. but im in complete concordance those songs are fantastic

I'm just freewheelin' here, and I don't know anything about how EVR marketed stuff at the time, but putting two kinda moshy, super p-hardcore songs on that album may have inadvertently lumped them in with heavier bands. And given the move from Olg to Bsn, it seems like that was something they were already distancing themselves from, so the inclusion of those two songs would probably be counter productive.

but from an artistic standpoint, I would love to see one of those b-sides replacing Carry Us Away on the album. I need to try listening to it like that sometime.
