No. And that's the point. Now, if we see someone owning slaves - another thing I have a particular and personal issue with, being the son of a black bad ass man and all - today, that's more fucked up than back then because we as a society have decided centuries ago that this is abhorrent. It doesn't excuse them, and Ben Affleck and his family of slave owning assholes can go fuck themselves, but even more so those that actually engage in slavery today - Apple is guilty of it and I'm typying on a freaking iPhone, which at least I haven't paid for it, they lost a case to me over product support but that's enough of derailing the point - and it's unfortunately more often and more of an issue than we actually realize. It still happens here in some rural parts of the country. Our working laws are getting botched to make it legal, btw, which goes against international accords that we signed on in the past.

The point is, doing something wrong and abhorrent in the past when it was sort of shrugged it off is indeed shitty. Comparing what happened when it was sort of socially accepted with now when it isn't is when we lose focus on how shitty what happened recently is. Of course that we should condemn rock stars that did that back then, but comparing with Lacey sort of glamourizes his actions and that's not an outcome we want.

 

Don't listen to the art if it's tainted for you. Listen if you have emotional attachment/rely on the music as therapy. Don't shit on people who still need the music. Speak out against the abuser, don't financially support them and educate others about the abuse
