And I've been told about a hundred time I'm excusing what Jesse did by saying industry power dynamics are at play and examples of this happening with other musicians in the past show this. In no way does that excuse Jesse. I have never excused what he did, I think he's a monster I think all these band dudes taking advantage of girls, especially under age girls, are pieces of shit. From what I gathered, he thought you were implying that the industry being toxic made Jesse do the shit he did, while you meant that it enabled (made it easier for) his shittiness to come out.

As I said, feathers ruffled, signals being crossed, it wasn't a productive discussion and I think sometimes when you see someone is struggling it's best to walk away and not engage. Again, not blaming you, I understand that you'd want to fight back when someone is attacking you, and even if he wasn't being a good sport, sometimes it's best to be the bigger man.

 

I don't like the comparison because it seems like an way out for Lacey. Bowie is a piece of shit, but even Bowie being a piece of shit saying he was like Lacey seems like absolution for Lacey to me.

What I'm saying is that Lacey is a special kind of piece of shit that shouldn't get the grace of being compared to a piece of shit like Bowie. He doesn't get to do that. What Bowie did was awful, but it's not like it was hidden, it wasn't a mystery. Bowie abusing a kid back then is different than Lacey abusing a kid back in 2000s because we all progressed as a society and we should know better. He should know better.

If we keep looking back and painting things in broad strokes, my grandma married the father of my mother when she was 15 and he was 18. Centuries ago girls got married when they were around that age as well. What makes it damning is that we all as a society came together and decided that this wasn't acceptable, even having laws against it. Hence the importance of laws in a civilized society.

 

I do think that society becoming more "woke" in the past decade(s) has greatly shifted the perception of what is abuse and what isn't, I get where you're coming from. I'm just asking you from person to person, understand that no one here wants to lighten the burden on Jesse Lacey. We all agree that what he did was a real piece of shit move.

Because unfortunately it was sort of socially accepted and shrug it off back then, especially among the rock star scene. When it happened with Lacey, it wasn't. It wasn't and I know because I wasn't a kid back then. He knew that he was wrong, knew the law and moral repercussions of it and still did it. Systematically. Of course that Bowie and his contemporaries that engaged in similar situations of what Lacey did are pieces of shit, but I don't see how comparing Lacey with them accomplish anything.
