among people who are completely against jesse, who would give them monetary support anyway? its not like theyre gonna tour again, they arent releasing anymore albums, people who dont already own albums arent gonna buy them now besides idiots who still want the vinyl for collecting purpose, and streaming is such a negligible amount of money i would hardly consider that supporting but downloading music illegaly is easy anyway

and really people buying vinyl off of other people selling vinyl isnt supporting the band, they're giving their money to someone else, many of whom are pledging to donate it so thats actually fine with me

Yeah, I mean actively supporting it. Going out of your way to buy their records from the label, merch and shit. That I can't understand any longer. That's where I draw the line. I respect, won't give anyone hell for it, but I don't approve either.

the people who will be doing that are people who believe jesse is innocent or forgive him for some reason.

I think people do so either because they do forgive for what hasn't happened or find that their positive feelings toward the band outweigh the negative

Honestly I never really listened to this band religiously like most. I went through phases, but I generally would have to be in a pretty specific mood to put on BN. Because of that, I could see myself still listening to a few songs here and there.. but at the same time I'm not sure the desire to listen to them will come as often anymore in the first place. It hasn’t really since the news broke.. so I’m feeling myself naturally gravitate away from them rather than making a conscious choice.

That being said, if one day I wake up and have a burning desire to hear “Archers” or something, maybe I will. But you most definitely will not catch me sporting my Brand New shirt anymore.

It was cold today for the first time in a while and my only good indoor sweater is my Brand New one, so I went to the garage and got out my heating blanket for the first time in like a year

Marvel's spring sweatshirt. Cozy and just right for the weather here at the moment. My Marvel and DC merch will never fail me.

This is pretty much where I am too. Even though they were my favorite band, I haven’t had any desire to listen to their work at all since this happened.

I’ve got TDAG & SF on vinyl, the first four cds, and a couple of shirts but I haven’t done anything with them yet. I’ll probably sell the vinyl & throw out the rest, but it’s not really a priority for me right now.

Lately I’ve been thinking of all the money I spent supporting this band over the years. It’s probably between $300-$400 on concert tickets, travel, & merch. Not a huge amount, but more than I’ve spent on any other artist. Now I kind of hate how loyal I was to them.

Man youre digging yourself some hole here. Maybe its just the way youre phrasing things but it honestly reads like you’re defending them.

It's just a gray sweatshirt with Marvel logo on it. Not sure if there's similar to those in the US, but it's officially licensed and probably my favorite sweatshirt to walk around the weekend like a homeless person with a great fashion sense, haha.

Defending people who still want to buy and wear their merch? I view it the same way I do as listening to the music...you do what you at comfortable with

So I’ve had this thought about their legacy, and one of the best parts of being a Brand New fan for me was hoping my boys would eventually get into them and I could be like “yeah, I was there for it, it was amazing.” like I did when I started discovering the talent in “my dads music.” it’s really where I struggle in this whole thing. Not listening to the band since news broke has been easy.

I have their records on vinyl and that collection is meant to be passed down to my children. I struggle with tossing out the records vs keeping them and explaining that legacy and why it’s never okay behavior. What message am I sending to boys that I expect to do better by keeping the records? What message am I sending by throwing them out and ignoring that part of the legacy. Neither I have answers for so any insight is appreciated, but that’s why I haven’t tossed mine yet.

Since this has become the chat and let's recommend great female / non-binary bands thread, here's one that I almost forgot that it came out this year but it's fucking brilliant:

    Far From Alaska - Unlikely

Here's the video from their single:

Probably the best Brazilian band right now. They have recorded this single they made with yet another Brazilian band, Ego Kill Talent, which is probably one of my favorite songs this year, it's just... brutal. And amazing:

Like some others in here, I've listened to a few BN songs since the news broke and it wasn't as weird as I thought it'd be. I haven't been actively trying to listen to them or anything, which is the weird thing for me because I obviously listened to them quite often. So it's weird to not be able to just on a whim, throw on one of their albums on any day at any time.

I always have my iPod on shuffle in my car and maybe 3 or 4 times, they've come on (out of mana, mene, play crack the sky). I will most likely keep listening in those type of situations - if they come on in my car randomly and maybe one day I'll have the itch to throw on one of their vinyls, but I doubt that day comes soon.

I'm still waiting for my $51 limited vinyl to come in the mail. I did not cancel the pre-order nor am I planning on it. I went to the record store the other day and they had Science Fiction LP for $16.99. I ALMOST pulled out my phone, canceled my pre-order and bought the 16.99 version to save $35, just to complete my BN vinyl collection. But then I thought - I don't want this record store clerk to think I'm some weirdo listening/supporting this band. And I realize that by me not canceling the pre-order, I'm still giving them my money and this is why this whole situation sucks so bad. We waited eight years for SF and the album was surprise released on the day my daughter was born. I have such great memories with that album dropping. Just sitting in the hospital holding my daughter for three days straight with SF in the background. It's hard for me to just disregard the album. It means a lot to me and came out on such a significant day that I will forever remember and cherish.

To be honest, this whole entire situation has tainted almost all music for me. For the first time I can ever remember, I just haven't been that excited about music for the past 3 or 4 weeks, which is so disheartening. Obviously, since the Lacey news, we've heard from a lot of other situations involving other bands and now it's like, I'm just waiting to hear more shitty news about more of my favorite bands. It's honestly in the back of my head every time I'm listening to something. It's like I'm wondering 'maybe these guys aren't as innocent as I think' or 'I wonder what kind of skeletons are in their closet."

    I don't know. That's where I'm at right now.

I just hope that none of the people in here trying to continue supporting the band are people who will call for boycotting of a random pop punk band sending nudes or something. Because that definitely shows where your priorities lie.

This was really my original point. Is Brand New being treated differently in reaction to the allegations? But I'm looking at from the other side. If you stopped supporting/listening to the band have you stopped watching/listening all others who have accusations in the past.
