I've had a buddy who for months has been trying to get me into them. I've dabbled a little bit and thought they were OK. They were supposed to play in Cleveland this weekend and I was contemplating going.

I posted in the accountability thread, something seems not right with this statement. For starters, the part where he talks about he can tell by a fan's reaction to his performance if they want to have sex or not is creepy and weird. And everything else in his statement makes me think there is something much, much deeper into what's he's admitting to.

 

Unless/until more information comes to light, the Pinegrove situation feels difficult to judge because it's impossible to tell whether the lack of details are a) hiding something deeper or b) out of respect for the victim. I want to believe it's the latter given that the allegations are currently private and Evan seems open about his reflections/willingly going to therapy, but who knows anymore. It comes down to having faith and I don't know if I can do that for anyone in entertainment right now. Everything is fucked.

 

Do you know if that whole thing is canceled or is Pinegrove just dropping out? There was enough decent bands that I may still check it out.

Why those artists, what is the common thread there

 

Well all of them (except Iron Chic) are female/non-binary fronted acts. Even Iron Chic had Carly from Slingshot Dakota on the majority of their new album though.

 

I appreciate the sincerity but I was being a more than a little facetious, since it seems you're suggesting we should abandon any male-fronted bands because some other male-fronted bands have behaved in a shitty manner

You're of course welcome to listen to or recommend whomever you want, just as I am welcome to roll my eyes at your reasons for doing so

For the record, I quite like Phoebe Bridgers and Julien Baker, because they are talented, not because they happen to be women

Well more and more abusers are being outed in this seen and so far all(correct me if I'm wrong) have been male. So it makes sense to me that one would suggest bands with non males in them to people who have been repeatedly disappointed in bands that they listen to.

Because it’s a weird thing to take umbrage with. There’s quite a bit of dialogue and instead you decided to target a post giving a list of women artists to listen to. It’s a trivial contribution at best

 

Her post listed all female bands, with the advice to listen to those bands. Why, because they aren't dudes? I need a better reason than that to enjoy music.

I can't even tell what the hell is going on, what are the bands involved and I honestly feel blessed for that.
