I honestly feel bad for that woman. When I said stuff about Christian Greying Lacey, she was the reason I've said that. It's awful because I can definitely see that she just went down a rabbit hole and it's desperately trying to convince herself that what she is doing is right.

With that said, I feel way worse for the victims. What she is doing is incredibly shitty and once again, proof that the whole mythology fan fiction around this band was ALWAYS something incredibly shitty. She is trying to hold on to anything to justify her fandom, instead of doing the obvious and believing the victims. Her replies to people like Brian and Anthony show how delusional she is and while I feel bad for her, it's pathetic. The last time I've counted there are FIVE victims that stepped forward. Nicole was the first, and from the recollection of people that actually know her like Diaz, she was extremely young back then. She uses the fact that Nicole posted BN lyrics on her FB as "proof" without realizing that who she might be talking about when mentioning those lyrics and especially those lyrics followed by TBS lyrics on the replies might be Lacey himself.

I honestly hope she reads this because I do think she's searching high and low about this and let me tell you, lady: you are doing this all wrong. You are putting your fandom ahead of these victims feelings. They've already suffered enough, they don't need your judgement, they need your support. You aren't a freaking internet detective. In fact you very much suck at this. Just stop. Put yourself one good minute on those victims shoes and what you'd do for Lacey at their age and just fucking stop. He is a predator. He admitted. Come to terms with this. If you want to still love the band or not it's not anyone's problem, especially not the victims problem. Just quit because you are hurting one hell of lot of people and I bet that you are hurting yourself too. I think you are clever enough to realize that. Stop. Believe the victims. BELIEVE LACEY with his half-assed excuse of woe is me apology. Just. Stop.

I vacated this thread for days, and yup it’s still depressing.

 

That degvausser kid that was friends with MaryV is pissed that people didn't talk about this in the past.

I will be the first one to say that I'm pissed that we let this shit happen. I blame the scene. I blame myself. I blame Jason. I blame EVERYONE from back then for not stepping in on the Brand New thread and saying hey, let's not fan fiction this shit. But we couldn't know better. We were fucking stupid, too young and caught up on bullshit and I hate myself for not realizing before. I am sorry. We failed the victims, we failed the scene, we failed.

With that said, other than the band members dropping out disavowing Lacey back then (assuming they knew) as soon as they heard about these stories and or Lacey himself owning his shit back then, what people beyond them that knew or heard stuff should do? I honestly ask this. Let's say that people knew back then. That they heard stories. That this has been looming for a long fucking while and those that were paying attention back then know that. First, you can't expose the victims. You just can't. What should they do? What should people that heard the rumors do? It's obvious that they can't do shit, other than the band members other than Lacey and Lacey himself, they simply couldn't. Some of the victims talked about this before. This isn't new. But that's the first time that they were actually heard. Why is this so fucking hard for the truthers that want to make Lacey the new Christian Grey to understand?

 

NGL I like Anthony Raneri more now.

I've been asking myself this question for the past week.

I've been sent stories about bands. I know of abusive behavior by multiple well known, well respected musicians in our music scene. Some of it is very, very, very, very, very bad. To the point where I threw out something that was on one of my walls after getting a Facebook message. But I have no idea what to do with that information because they don't want it public.

When I first talked to Derrick years ago he said the same thing, he wanted me to know, but didn't really want me to post about it. At the time, I got that. And then as the rumors came out and I thought, THOUGHT, it was in the past I figured that the gossip about that at this point would hurt his new family and re-open wounds. That was clearly wrong.

So, I'm also reading and wanting to hear from people what they think should be done in the future ...

That’s such a shitty situation. You have to respect the privacy of people who have come forward, but I also know many people, including myself, don’t want to support bands in the scene who are guilty of abusive behavior. So... yeah, it’s just real tough.

I honestly think that we need counselling. Not just you, I mean, this scene. I understand that we can't expose the victims. I don't even know what "our" music scene is anymore. I don't know and I don't recognize this music scene anymore. I recognize our music scene from back then, and I feel like what you and others involved need is actual professional help. Like it happened with the Screen Junkies fiasco.

The more you say about what you heard the more I think I know exactly which band you are talking about, and it fucking pains my heart. Not that I still hear them to this day, but they were important to me at some point. But I think that Raneri said it best:

I honestly don't know how to proceed. This Dr. Janina Scarlet seems to be an accessible person and she seems to have experience dealing with cases of abuse involving entertainment. I honestly think at this point the reasonable advice is that we literally need counselling, professional counselling that is. That's the point that we got here.

 

It's like The Antlers and Modern Baseball had a baby to me. There's a lot of influences (BN included) on it, but it feels pretty fresh and familiar at the same time.

I agree. Obviously if the victims don't want it to be public then you have to respect that but I wish I knew if I was listening to some abusive people right now.

I wish so too, and on one hand that feels like kind of a selfish impulse, but I also don't want to be supporting abusers via either monetary or word of mouth means.
