The band doesn't care. They never cared. I'm seeing people who are now looking at Jesse's lyrics and saying "how did we not know?" And realizing it was always right in front of them and they mistook his personality for being mysterious and introverted. The band has been trolling fans for years. Their "clever" marketing, illusivness and lack of contact that made them so interesting to everyone was never calculated. If you were to look at all the delayed shippings and lack of connection to the fans through a scope of "they really don't care about their fans" instead of "how mysterious I wonder what it all means", doesn't that actually make a lot more sense?

Just as to curiosity, are you saying you've talked to the band members since the story broke? Or are you going off of info you have heard in the past?

 

It does make sense. Now the feeling is that the "mystery" is exactly what they wanted everyone to believe. I totally bought it. I became a fan of Brand New as a teenager, and I thought they were just so cool, so rebellious, so different!!! They didn't owe the fans a thing, and digging through a mystery that was only a facade was so fun!!! It all makes me sick now, to be honest. I don't know if anything Jesse sang about was actually genuine, but it was genuine to me, his lyrics from TDAG onwards spoke to me. I'm definitely not supporting the band anymore and understand that my feelings don't come close to the survivors. I'm just very disappointed and these are tired ramblings

Remember when I said that I couldn't believe that people were Christian Greying Lacey? This woman's tweets were what triggered that comment from me. And I almost feel bad for her because she is obviously trying to hold up to any kind of hope that this isn't true, nevermind the fact that there are several vicitims coming forward. With that said, what she is doing is vile, absurd and I truly hope that any of the victims never see this bullshit around. I'd highly recommend to nuke this bullshit out of here too.

Why are people continuing to analyze HER account, when there are literally multiple other girls who have also spoken up with similar experiences? If you really wanted to weigh both sides, definitely don't do so after the abuser confirms it and MULTIPLE stories from unrelated girls come out.

@Jason Tate without asking any specifics about the situation and what you know, do you believe the band / label are withholding from commenting any further to weather the storm and carry on as planned or do you think everyone is just trying to find the best way to save face at this point?

 

I've been completely lost as to what I should be listening to. I've been reaching for sad songs and albums. Today I remembered John Mayer's music existed (somehow I forgot) and it made me a whole lot happier listening to it.

 

Cassadaga has so many gems. I'll have to check out those EP's.

Because when they dug into her social media, it was easy to use her drug use and position in the scene to attempt to discredit & demonize her. They are having a harder time doing that with the others, so they point to their age as means to dismiss those accounts

 

Conor Oberst did a really selfish and shitty thing by suing his accuser imo, so I can't find much solace in his music in all of this.

No, I'm not kidding. Do you have any idea how expensive it is to defend a defamation lawsuit? It taints the entire thing, and now Conor Oberst is the poster boy for "well let's wait and see how it plays out in court"

 

Oh come on. I'm always behind the victim but if you're being wrongly accused on such a GRAND scale, how else are you going to prove it's not true? The dude's career was practically over. Defamation lawsuits are literally for exactly that. When it's actually a case of defamation.

 

Never cared enough for Oberst. Remember listening Cassadaga for some trips back in the day, but not really any song I can't live without. Fuck him too.

 

You can state your case publicly without the threat of a million dollar defamation lawsuit. If victims can't afford to defend themselves, they're silenced. For a while Bill Cosby was successfully able to fend off true rape allegations with defamation lawsuits. They're damaging.

You're misusing the term victim. You feel bad for false accusers that make it harder for real accusers to be believed?

 

I'm old. I don't follow the news about these bands as I once did. I'm not sure about what happened to make an informed opinion. But the fact that he sued someone that step forward as a victim does rub me the wrong way. Not enough to care about it though.
