I'm not going to lie I think I'll probably continue listening to their music (or at least Devil and God, Daisy, and SciFi) after a while - I generally assign my own meaning to lyrics that isn't usually what I assume is the intention of the writer anyway, and I think I'll keep it exclusive to the CDs/vinyl I already own so that I'm not continuing to support him/them. We'll see though. I haven't fully decided how I feel about that, and a lot of it will probably depend on how I feel the first time I actually do listen, and it's going to be a long while before I'm even ready to try that, but it's just really hard to imagine myself never listening to these songs again.

i posted my record on discogs and it sold in just a few hours, person said they were glad i'm donating some of the money to a good cause so i guess i feel a little better that i'm not selling to a gross person?

when making lists i always think about how well i know the songs. if there's an album that i like a lot but i realize i don't know the songs by name that usually makes me bump it down a bit. and vice versa. think that's an important part for me, the listenability aspect

when chuck berry died earlier this year many people conveniently forgot about his abuse stuff.

hopefully we can look back on older artists as well for all of their horrible things rather than being like "well, they're dead, let it be"

So...is it safe to assume I am going to feel the same about the NOFX book if I thought the Kieids book was gross?

How do you make a song like this when you're 45?

There's a person in this world that thinks this is all about being disappointed/angry because YFW doesn't get played live and now we finally have a way to "get back at him"

    Wow.

  11. You guys should really just not visit Reddit anymore. And definitely not cross post the crazy here.

The only good thing about Reddit is those landscape subs and you can find those pictures elsewhere anyway.

I just read through /r/fightoffyourdemons and I honestly need to vent. It made me sick to my stomach. And my blood is boiling.

I can't believe I'm associating MRAs and assault apologists with Brand New. Honestly maybe I shouldn't be surprised but it's so sickening.

Honestly I like Reddit a lot. But like humanity in general, there's aspects of it that are incredibly depressing to confront.

I think a large part of it is a) victims now have a Voice with social media and b) the stories/news spreads like wildfire with social media so it’s impossible to ignore the news now when this happens.

It has obviously always been wrong but apparently in the 70s, 80s, 90s and 00s I guess it was just easier to get away with or there was no fear they could get outed.

It’s sickening to think about it though because I’m beginning to think this has been and still is so much more prevalent than what has come to surface thus far.

Maybe this is an irresponsible statement but I’m starting to think that maybe the rest of the band isn’t as innocent as we are hoping...it’s the only reason I can think of why they haven’t said anything yet.

  19. I don’t get why people @mention me in shit like this. He hurt kids why are you focusing on Jesse and not them.

  20. No idea. The “god bless Jesse” stuff I assumed in the news post. Just a guess.

I think that's simplifying the reaction, no? I've been so torn on this, in a way that I haven't been as it relates to allegations in the past. To me, there are multiple layers to this (and several other situations like this one), and I can't help but keep wondering "what is the right way for Jesse to respond?" and furthermore how should I respond to my childhood hero doing despicable things.

To me, if it is indeed true that he has been going to group and individual therapy for years, isn't that part of what addressing the issue looks like? Should people like him go to jail fifteen years after events like these? Now there are questions of whether she was 15 or 16, does that make a difference? (some would argue either way, and regardless of "legality," he's a piece of shit (which I lean towards believing). It doesn't help that my in-laws are from a 3rd world island country, and my FIL married my MIL despite meeting her when she was 15 and he was 25. EDIT: I'm not saying the age thing isn't important, and that the abuse of power and control is perhaps the most important thing. It's just interesting that people are obsessing over the age issue more than what could be the more significant aspects of these stories.

I don't know. I mean, I'm a liberal college professor who believes fully in these movements to increase awareness of sexual abuse, yet I don't know what forgiveness looks like for him, although I don't seek vengeance.

Sorry for the rant Jason, I've been working through these ideas and your post made me think. I don't feel like I can talk her, because the way I'm working through these thoughts seems to go against what many vocalize here.

  24. If he abused 14 and 15 year old kids yes he should face consequences. Wtf.

You’re focused on the wrong people.

  25. I got screamed at for calling this dude weird a few years back by people involved with this band ...
