That was one of my first thoughts as well. In context of the chapter, Jesus is describing children as the greatest in God's kingdom.

 

I will say you've been doing a kickass job with what you have. But there's only so much a mod can do against such an in flux of people. I witnessed something similar happen on /r/conspiracy. Before the election it was a pretty light hearted place with some funny stuff. Then it got overrun by /r/The_Donald and it honestly has yet to recover.

 

People keep saying “mods.” I’m the only one that is active. I’m doing everything on mobile right now and am trying to switch to approval mode.

 

Disgusting.

The band and label and all associates should condemn this bullshit.

 

The girl behind this works in the music industry and has proven to be a disgusting human throughout all of this.

 

In Reddit's defense, the quality of discussion and good-hearted participants depends greatly on which subreddit you are in. /r/homecooking and /r/wholesome memes make my life a little easier to live.

One easy way to avoid shitty redditors is to ask yourself if the topic/hobby at hand disproportionately attracts young men ages 18-30.

Ironically, the band I’ve been going to for mental support since this news broke is Colour Revolt. I still remember the jaw dropping feeling of hearing Mattresses Underwater for the first time, when they were introduced to most of us by opening up for Brand New back in 2005 or 2006.

Colour Revolt still resonates with me vividly. Makes me want to believe in something.

 

They've already created their own "uncensored" sub to post the "truth"

Their more ridiculous online fans have always been one of the worst things about this band. We’re seeing the worst of the worst.

It’s very weird.

 

I went on the sub a few days ago and literally saw someone claiming this whole thing is a work to hype up the 2000-2018 thing. Insanity.

but like, it's not like anyone is forcing them to stop enjoying the music. put on some fucking headphones and listen to Science Fiction on repeat. No one gives a shit. But don't be an asshole and make it harder for people to come out that have been harmed. It's not hard.

idk, I'll be the first to admit that, maybe in a few months, I'll put on Daisy because it's one of my all time favorite records; but that doesn't mean I won't know full that Jesse is a garbage person and god knows I won't stand up for him.

 

I've been trying to process all of this internally (as a lot of us have) and one thing I've been trying to to play some BN albums/songs and try to process how I feel about them now vs. before

Got as far as "Sudden Death in Carolina" and "What difference does this difference in age make?" and decided it was time to stop for now.

 

If I ever do listen to Brand New again, which isn't very likely at this point, their first four albums are off the table for me. Science Fiction is the only album I can even imagine giving another shot.

 

Jesse could admit to everything under oath, with picture and video evidence and a sizeable portion of the fanbase would still find a way to defend it. It's not about "proof" for a lot of them and never has been

 

Honestly have no idea what to do with this Brand New vinyl collection. Can't look at it without guilt. TDAG and Daisy completed the set, and were anniversary presents that my wife paid for with money she received from her father's death. She takes great pride and happiness in the joy those gifts brought at the time, even after all this crap. Obviously, this might be a shallow and materialistic thing to mope about, but ffs the associative memories are really tearing me up.

 

The difference between socially and morally approved behavior and the feeling right before vomit, Jesse. That's the difference it makes.

 

A lot of these people in reddit also seem to be people that literally identify by that band, and if that’s the case I’m sure they feel totally spun right now and this is out of the need to protect themselves. Jesse and Co. are being attacked and they feel like that’s an attack on them.

I loved Brand New, but they didn’t account for a large portion of my life or identity. While they certainly helped me through moments, they didn’t define anything for me.
