    Alright.

And that is kind of crazy considering. It's kind of weird to me that he's even worried about her being 17 when he's just barely 18? Maybe they changed the age? This kind of doesn't make sense.

If I'm going to get into a heated debate in public I'll pick my battles appropriately. This is not one of them right now.

    all we have is time

Maybe she was younger and he wrote the song about himself not wanting to turn 18?

some states don't have exceptions to consent age or they used to not. I don't know anymore.

if the state is a hard 18 rule no matter if they are only a few months or even weeks younger than you the prosecutor could choose to pursue charges, if there's not common sense exception for those situations

This wikipedia page is useful right now: Ages of consent in the United States - Wikipedia

  8. It leaked onto the internet via blogs and BitTorrent in 2006, but, due to the minimal success online, the band did not take action to remove the leaked versions.

    Damn, that's a brutal burn.

You got me. I just wonder if they changed the age to 17, or they ... didn't write the lyrics? Or he lied about his age to the internet. Who knows. But that song is like a jailbait anthem.

Like I've said before, you just have to reach a point where you can separate yourself from it and it's fine.

Whenever allegations like this come up, I always go back to something I read about John Darnielle (of The Mountain Goats) when he talked about writing The Sunset Tree (which talks about his stepfather abusing him his entire upbringing). I wish I could find the source, but it was something along the lines of him never feeling safe or that he could be abused again all the way up until his stepfather died. Multiple years after he’d seen him.

While that definitely may not be true for all victims, I think it’s a really important anecdote to remember as fans when discussing the Lacey (or Louis, or any of the recent outings.) While there’s legitimate grief to be had in seeing artists you look up to being outed as predators, it’s absolutely nothing compared to what the victims have, and have had, to live with for years. Constant fear and dread just knowing these guys are wondering around, let alone being ADORED by everyone.

Also, on a lighter note, a reminder that The Mountain Goats rule forever.

The best thing I ever realized as an adult is that the music I listen to means absolutely nothing when it comes to my identity. Once I got past that I stopped caring about what band or genre is cool and just enjoyed what I enjoy. It's a much happier place.

    I don't care what's considered "cool".

I don't like the music that I have listened to for 15 years to be tainted. it makes it hard to listen and sing along to other stuff because I feel like I let this predators songs into my life for so long, and don't want to make myself vulnerable like that again.

I enjoy what I enjoy too, turns out one of my favorite bands has a disgusting member, it hurts and it makes you think.

Master of not knowing what the hell I'm doing.

I think this largely depends on the band, at least for me. What makes the Brand New case so difficult for a lot of us to go back to is how intensely personal the lyrical style is and how you can relate that back to the incidents at hand, whether it relates to that or not. I would imagine in cases where lyrics are more abstract or conceptual that's not the case. Same for instrumentalists to a certain extent unless you have an affinity for the instrument they play.

Saying that, I haven't had any cases where a band I really like has a member accused of stuff other than the vocalist, so feel free to tell me if I'm talking out of my ass.

I found that I associate songs with moments/people/places and not bands or band members. It's a better place.

  22. I'm assuming most bands that were on Warped Tour for the last 10 years are looking at Twitter right now and are terrified of what may come out.

I know a lot of you have been asking about new music to listen to, to lift them up. This record and me may be a little older, but nonetheless this is still amazing and helped me and quite a few friends through some rough times, maybe some of you enjoy this, too:

It's a shame Jon Bunch isn't with us anymore ...

That environment is the ideal place for this kind of behaviour to fester really. Not to take any blame away from the individuals that participate in it, of course.
