if someone considers it abuse, it's abuse. a person would probably have no reason to call someone out if things were done right and communicated correctly. response to situations matter as well, there's something to be said for a band member called out for things done years ago and going across things the right way to try and resolve what they have done wrong. not everyone who has done things that can be called "abuse" is a bad person. bad decisions can be made and with all bad decisions there are good and bad ways to handle it

i'm not condoning serial abuse by the way. or a manipulation of power consistently. this is for more isolated incidents

Master of not knowing what the hell I'm doing.

Wow Rock Sound's Facebook comments have been 3/3 so far on abuse cases. Every comment section is gross.

  3. Some blanket statements being thrown around I think need to be re-thought. The issue with a power dynamic is how someone wields or uses that power inappropriately, to coerce. Consensual relationships can also be impacted by this, especially in our society. But there are more precise terms and nuance to talk about that.

in a large majority of cases such as this, bands use their status over their fans to put them in situations hard to say no. so many of the stories that have come out the last few days have that in common. fans that were struck that the singer of their favorite band wanted to talk to them regularly while being emotionally manipulated for sexual purposes

  5. That’s why I said what I said.

There are also relationships that start with a fan and a band member that are healthy.

This. I'm a straight male, so I've been trying to apply this to my own high school self for context. If I was 14 years old and someone in a band I looked up to was like "hey man, do this line of cocaine" I'd probably have done it just because somebody I idolized was telling me to do something and I'd have a hard time saying no to someone I idolized.

Obviously the age of the victims is important and disgusting, but it's the power imbalance. You take girls who are insecure and struggling to get some boy in their high school to date them and then all of a sudden the singer of their favorite band is telling them they're the best thing in the world? They never have a chance, it's always going to end the way these cases have and it's really tragic. Obviously the age is important but it's the power imbalance that is most galling to me.

The people still trying to find a way to justify Jesse's actions is pretty gross considering all the new stuff coming out. I saw someone argue that the original victim was 15 and that "15 is old enough to know better" like just WTF? Now the story from the Emily person that a lot of people in the scene seem to know or know of, I mean restricting access to the band, unless she performs acts or sends photos, which allows her to do her job or make money is all just so gross.

This was always speculation on my part. But I always felt that line was about worried parents of somebody who wasn't like them (a rock star, an agnostic, etc) that I assumed could easily be about Jesse in terms of him being a catholic school boy. He was wasn't he?

That’s actually the worst and most direct case of “victim blaming” I’ve ever seen. SHE should’ve known better, because Jesse didn’t? Yeah... she she def should’ve known better at 15 but it’s cool Jesse didn’t at 24. I can’t believe people.

I really wanna be done with reading and posting about this but I keep getting sucked back in. So much misplaced anger in this thread too. These situations should promote unity, not devisiveness. I’m glad at least most of us here are on the right side.

Yeah it was super gross I just couldn't believe what I was reading. I told my gf that a lot of people are trying to justify it and she was like "well I'm not surprised almost every time we saw them in concert we were surrounded by assholes" I had to admit she was right.

  15. I do think it's important to acknowledge in these cases that they're not wrong because it's illegal, they're wrong because it's morally wrong. Too often the law has little to do with what's wrong or right. Age of consent in Massachusetts is also 16, so if you focus too much on that aspect, it's easy to say (in the case of this PtV story, at least) "well it's fine because it wasn't statutory rape, she was 16." It may not have been statutory rape (or even illegal at all), but it was still abuse and still wrong for him to do.

"Frontman Trace Cyrus said this song is “about wanting to be in a relationship with a girl who’s underage so bad and how age limitations don’t let you do that.”

    From wiki:

Frontman Trace Cyrus told Kerrang! magazine that this song is "about wanting to be in a relationship with a girl who’s underage so bad and how age limitations don’t let you do that."[2]

So strange. To be fair though, they were 17 or 18 when they wrote the song. Still super weird though

Exactly. That was my point earlier replying to someone else - we constantly reconcile morality with legality all the time. It's part of life.

Yeah I was gonna say, not that they're not guilty of some very questionable shit, but that song in particular is relatively small potatoes when considering Trace and Mason were maybe days over 18 when writing that

That said, their drummer at the time was like 30 and 100% preyed upon young girls at all of their shows, have seen it firsthand.

So, uh...are we still waiting on a statement from the band? This is getting ridiculous if we are.

  22. This was posted by that scumbag who ran IsAnyoneUp. I was there at the warped tour event. NO ONE was even close to assaulted. An ex Girlfriend showed up to start drama. I told her personally to leave in one direction (Nicely, I might add) she didn't, and got yelled at by some people. Then some other band dude had a soda can thrown near him by someone who is not in ADTR, that's it. All parties have sorted their differences, that was 2 years ago.

The 15 year old story is 100% false. I only take time to say this, because Josh is a good friend of mine and doesn't deserve the slander.

The story was started by Hunter Moore.

  23. If they make any statement at this point, I'd expect it to be "we're done."

I don't expect otherwise. I just can't believe they've let this fester as long as they have.
