Then what's the point of the speculation? If playing armchair detective and psychologist isn't gonna help then why are people doing it? That's my point.

Their music played a big roll in the dating phase with my now wife. Major/Minor came out right before we got married so the acoustic version of Anthology was an easy choice for our wedding song. Then we went to their farewell tour on our honeymoon. Band means so much to me.

Some girl that works for BMI is having a field day slandering Nicole and pulling up blog posts about her drug addiction. I think I’m gonna have to stop keeping up with this story today because it’s barely noon and I’m already stressing out over the way people are handling it.

I’m glad nobody in here is grasping trying to justify this, much less enjoying it.

Because simply addressing the symptoms doesn't address the disease. Telling men to stop assaulting women is like telling people to stop murdering each other - ideally, yeah, but faced with social and biological factors, not gonna happen just like that.

The disease is a lack of respect for women, or in a broader sense if you want to include the Spacey's of the world, a lack of respect for people in a position of lower social power. This is the question all people should be asking themselves, because it isn't contained to Hollywood or the music world.

people try to figure out things when they don't understand something.

I don't understand how this person could turn out to be such a terrible person. We've been listening to his band/lyrics for 15+years and it's hard to reconcile this with our thoughts of him.

people, including me, don't want to accept that this is just something that some people do, they, we want to understand what might cause something like this to happen.

if you're ok with just saying "he's a shitbird, lets go help the victims" that's fine, that's one normal response to this situation.

I don't think it helps curtail this type of behavior in the future though. we need to understand the root cause of this in order to prevent the next generation from committing these same things.

    that's what I think anyway.

I'm disappointed in myself for initially reacting "Well, we should wait until we have more info on this." While with Roy Moore (I'm from Alabama) I was immediately like, "Yeah, screw that guy, I hope he rots.".

    I have to do better.

If better means jumping to unfounded conclusions, no you certainly do not

I waited until we had more info, read the info, and made a conclusion. This is the order you should always do this in.

So how is speculation gonna help change that?

Master of not knowing what the hell I'm doing.

Out of interest, can anyone find the statement Better Off made in relation to this kind of thing? Seem to remember it as being the most tone deaf statement on abuse I've seen. Would be good to keep a record of the statements that have been made when these instances happen I think.

How does no one realize that if she does have a drug addiction, maybe Jesse caused it from the trauma?

No, I'm just reading what they're posting and they're only using Jesse Lacey as their case.

    Yeah about that.

I know what you mean but that is probably a pretty too broad statement. I.E running red lights, smoking weed, underage drinking etc.

The statement was actually talking about illegal acts correlating with being a bad person. I figured since this is the internet, and tone is generally a question, we should be clear with statements about things. Like saying illegality makes you a bad person, I think it certainly depends.

Certainly not arguing with you on that one bud, just commented on maybe it being taken different ways, this is the internet after all.

I do remember it was terribly handled and had just started listening to them a couple months before and really loved Milk. Don't think I've listened to it since.

i don’t remember what year it was that they posted a news update on their website regarding something that was going on with Jesse. It was between 2003-2005 and I remember something along the lines of “fixing various things that are wrong with him”, but don’t quote me on that. I don’t really recall the exact wording.
