Idk who this is but it's creepy and gross. And now i'm rattled thinking its just another one of my favorite bands.

 

Don't really know who this is in relation to but I don't really know how I feel. The age gap there is pretty big and I think that's the underlying issue- I don't think anyone would bat an eyelid if it was an 18 year old and a 16 year old dating. Not really sure where the line is in that regard.

At any rate, I think it depends on whether it's abusive/manipulative or not. I guess for all we know it could be genuine connection between the two. Who knows.

 

yeah, and this is why i'm torn about this particular case. i know how i feel but i haven't really felt weirded out by others thinking otherwise. i've had this discussion a few times and it feels like more people are okay with it than not in this particular situation

 

This weekend has me looking at the ridiculous history of old men doing shit like this with teenagers on Google. I keep seeing ones I had no idea about:

@cwhit Do you specifically mean dating or married? And is this fairly recent or an old power couple type thing? I'm having a hard time figuring out who it could be. If you don't want to say much could you PM me?

 

it's not part of the chorus scene at all, this is all within the last 5 years.

 

Honestly though, at this point, why not get the record, sell it for more than you are paying for it, and donate the proceeds (or just the profits) to a fitting charity.

I guess it's a little easier for me to come to terms with because the age of consent in the UK is 16 so that's totally legal here. Anyway, I studied Law at university, and I think my interpretation of the entire purpose of Law is that it's in place to protect people (totally up for debate of course). The age of consent is in place as a societal means of determining when someone is able to make their own decisions, but doesn't mean everyone gains a wealth of insight on the day of their 16th or 18th birthday. Some people, at that age, no longer need protecting against their own decisions. People mature at their own rate and if that relationship is consensual and both parties are happy to be open about it and there is no manipulation taking place, then fine. That last bit can't be guaranteed but it doesn't mean it is guaranteed manipulation either.

yeah. definitely.

i remember an article i read around the time of david bowie's death talking about his relationships with underaged women, and how at the time they were very happy and excited about it but later on realized they definitely shouldn't have done it and it messed up their childhood. that example stays with me, i was always of the mindset that if the women want to do it they have every right to, but that definitely made me reconsider that mindset.

 

Definitely the other aspect of that, yeah. I guess it's never really a hard and fast rule, and every situation is taken on its own merits. It's never really possible to know at the time of the relationship whether it's right or wrong but I'd be lying if I said that argument didn't hold any water for me, especially in light of the present case with Jesse.

 

Ugh. The woman who made the post with allegations against Eddie from Suicide Silence took down her post because of all the attacks and criticisms she was getting :(

 

and people say victim blaming isn't a thing, and ask why all women don't go to public with their allegations

Right? So frustrating and disheartening to see that happen. Like, she even had a bunch of screenshots to back up her post.

 

im 23 years old, so i was pretty young when a lot of the Micheal Jackson stuff was brought forward into the media. So anyone older who remembers more, please answer me about this. but how did a guy like Micheal Jackson seem to get off so... easy??? like, nobody ever talks about the Micheal Jackson stuff anymore. he is just the king of pop. i dno, it just seems like nobody cares? it doesnt seem right.

When I saw Kevin perform earlier this year it sounded as if the timing of Bad Books III was more to do with Manchester focusing on supporting their new album in 2017 and '18 and that he'd been writing music that could end up for BB or solo.

 

Pretty sure Paul Walker’s longtime girlfriend at the time of his death was 24. He was 40 when he died. They apparently started dating when she was 16 and he was 32/33? I just remember that being a very low key story around the time of his death.

 

Sorry @cwhit, wasn't trying to make you uncomfortable. Just trying to place and see if there was another situation that has been right under my nose and talked about openly that I missed.

Honestly the most complicated part of that and a few other stories are that the people are still together. How can we really do anything about an inappropriate start without hurting two adults now? I don't know what the answer would be.

 

not uncomfortable at all, just in this case i didn't want to make it into a thing that would spiral at this point. more of just trying to work my feelings on the situation and see what others think.
