I’m sure it is case by case, but how do you know if apologizing directly is something that’s wanted for progress or closure or if that interaction/communication alone, regardless of intention, could cause undue stress into the victim?

Echoing others' posts that this is the best articulated statement from a band member accused of this shit that I have seen, and considering how often we seem to be seeing these incidents, that's saying something.

Never been a huge BN fan, never will be (especially after this), but decent statement nonetheless.

I'm not even a big fan of this band, I don't give a fuck. Obviously there are probably legal reasons he can't discuss the exact accusations but regardless:

I'm fucking sick of guys taking advantage of their position to talk about how shitty their lives are and what bad people they are because of it instead of actually saying ANYTHING the victims and offering an explanation to the people (including fans) he hurt. All I read through that was just him stroking his ego and the "flawed man" persona he built his entire band upon. It's bullshit, and feels like he's appealing to fans.

Only AFTER being exposed though. I’m not saying it isn’t genuine, but it’s not so neat and clean now.

My biggest issue is that he is glossing over the depths of what he did. He made it seem like just cheating, which is another issue in it's self. When it is someone who is underage, that is a whole new disgusting ball game that comes with a whole new territory. While I am glad there is a statement and he has taken responsibility, my thoughts and feelings towards this band will always be tarnished and will never spend a cent on them going forward.

Pretty sure you deleted most of these (if not all) before I caught up from my Australian time zone. I saw everyone's reaction to that one fucking awful post and that the user had been banned for life. Was there much more of that shit in here? Or are you referring to reddit etc? I mean, fuck all of them of course. Just curious to know if there was more of that going on in this forum than I realised.

It admits guilt but no details. Says he's worked on this. Actually uses apologies and not hollow admiration.

Maybe it's me, but I'm interested in hearing from whatever mental health professionals he saw concerning this. Not a breach of confidentiality, just some sort of second opinion on actual progress. That's just my knee-jerk, maybe that's not actually right of me.

It never will be, but my gut tells me is he’s been honest with people in his life about this and he’s worked hard at getting help. Should he have made it public? Idk that’s a tough decision that we don’t get to make

After reading this- I think I know where I stand now.

I will not listen to the band for a long time, but I'm open to listening again in the future. I will not financially support, view Jesse as a good person or recommend the band to anyone again. But I might play the old albums from time to time.

    This. Im sorry, while i respect how ‘nice’ his statement is;

It doesnt change what he did
    It doesnt fix it
He only came forward after he got caught

He did what many I have gripes with didn't, and that's getting help, and changing.

It appears he has trouble addressing the specifics of what he has done due to shame.

He received treatment years ago, and that says a lot. However I'm still hurt beyond belief and processing this obviously.

I sincerely hope he finds a way to personally apologize to those he has hurt.

But were you expecting him to come out and admit all of this? I know if I had a dark past I certainly was not proud of and it was illegal, it’s not something I would want to share with the world. Not saying he couldn’t handle these matters personally or behind closed doors.

No statement could ever be enough, but this seems to hit a lot of what I hoped for from it. I don’t see it as a problem that he didn’t specifically address Nicole in the statement because I feel like that’s something that he should do in private. I really hope he reaches out to anyone he’s hurt, i thought that was a part of the treatment process.

Weird that it seems like the band will move on with things as planned.

it hard man. i lived a very bad life in the dark for a while and wouldve loved to just come out and apologize and tell people i was sorry but until you're exposed its easy to put up a wall to protect yourself. humans are very defensive beings.

I’m not sure what the process would be for him to reach out to her to try and address this directly, if that hasn’t already happened or been attempted. And she, of course, is fully within her rights to reject any such approach.

I’m also not sure there’s anything he could do for the victim to even begin making amends, but that would be up to her to determine.

I at least hope an attempt is made on his part to try and address this with her and help, if there’s any way he can, her with her healing process.

Since the band has been known to donate to food drives and stuff in the past, I would hope they do the same with trauma survivor organizations. I'd gladly support that.

To be fair, if he did go to therapy, there is a ton of accepting of responsibility that goes along with that, with his wife, etc and those things happened before he was "exposed"

It’s incredibly complicated. My honey answer is, “I don’t know”.

But, to me, if you are a public figure/celebrity you gain a certain power. Which comes with a higher standard and responsibility. What that should mean or look like here? I dunno. But preaching repentance and forgiveness only after being exposed is much harder to swallow than the other way around.

    This is all fucked.
