Since there’s been talk of trying to find some other music to spin, I’ve been hooking myself onto albums from St Vincent and Sharon Van Etten, as well as some select Frank Ocean tracks to do a sort of personal purging. I still haven’t fully gotten into the new Julien Baker album but am always super into the first few songs that open it up. Fell back in love with the new Perfume Genius album recently, actually. It left my rotation for a while. Found some older Björk records at a shop the other day that I’ll be listening to very soon. Listened to a lot of Mitski on the road to my friends wedding last week and remembered how fucking cool she is. Lotta good stuff out there.

Edit: shit, posted this because I thought we were still killing time waiting for a statement.

He never adressed any of the specific situations and then hid behind mental anxiety regarding sex and relationships. (Sometbing I relate to, but that's never made me wanna fuck or send nudes someone even a year younger than me.)

If he truly felt sorry for the fans there'd at least be a statement regading the tour, and for the victims some sort of consolation, but I guess it's a start.

The fact he doesn’t deny it says a lot

  5. One more time I'll just say: This is why I believe women first.

I need time to think, I'm sure I'll have a lot to say in the future.

    Stay well everyone.

hmmm, not sure if it's enough but at the moment it's good enough for me. Still does not take away what he did at ALL.

I need time to process this. Instant thought: it's a lot of the things I wanted to hear. But even the best statements (not saying this is one of them) come with a huge caveat -- they only appeared AFTER the abuser was busted.

I will say this: I am glad he has sought help and has a stable support system in his wife/family.

I also hope he reaches out and apologizes personally to Nicole.

That's the best statement owning up to wrongdoing I've ever seen in this scene

  10. I’m going to be honest, I respect the statement. It doesn’t justify what he did, but at least he was apologetic and is getting help. And I’m not even a Brand New fan.

Wow. Need some time to process that statement, but my initial reaction is that is nice to see him take full responsibility and it is also good to see that he has already been receiving professional help.

EDIT: Still can’t understand why he hasn’t reached out personally to these women and apologize.

And I'm thinking the fact he does not mention the specific allegations goes back to that issue many were discussing earlier. Those actions were completely illegal.

Yeah at first I didn't even care if we got a statement I just hoped he would talk to the victim

I feel similar to how I felt about the Louie CK statement. I'm glad he admitted guilt. What he did was shitty, and no statement can change that. I just don't understand why in these situations everyone is chomping at the bit for a formal statement only to tear it down and say it's not enough... of course it's not enough, but it is at least a small positive step in the right direction.

Yea, I hope he truly did get help and is actively pursuing to be a better man.

But I can’t support them at this point, at least for now. Which means the rest of the bands life, if it even exists at this point.

Retiring listening to them for a very long time.

He doesn’t have to address the specific statements that have been made. That’s between him and the people he has hurt. He owes you literally nothing. And no matter what he says, you’re going to find a way to tear him down. I appreciated the seeming honesty of his post and I don’t think he tried to shame or call any allegations false. I’m all for holding people accountable and that seems to be happening. However, don’t turn this into your own personal quest for him to personally apologize to you or try to curry your favor.

I’m sure he genuinely regrets what he did. But did he do what’s needed to fix that? that is one thing we might not ever know

this is more important than a public statement in my opinion.

  21. And we probably never will know as those steps and actions will probably happen behind closed doors

I don’t know what he could publicly do that would grant him any grace or forgiveness from his fans - I don’t think there is anything he can do that’ll grant him forgiveness from his victims

It’s an interesting statement that will be dissected to death because on the surface he is owning up to everything but he also probably can’t/won’t go into detail based on maybe potential legal reasons

I still feel incredibly uneasy about it all tho

I agree. A statement doesnt change his actions, no matter what. But i wonder if him reaching out to her would traumatize her even more.
