The best part about what this says about our society is we want to bitch about social injustices but when it hits too close to home or someone we know we want to keep silent. Perfect example is Kevin Devine and Zack Zarrillo who manages their label of some capacity have been retweeting about all these different rape accusations with celebrities and the second it's someone they know, the retweets and being loud about the movement cease. It's so hypocritical what most of these people preach. Perfect example is Patton Oswalt. Does not stop attacking people who are pieces of shit, the second Louis is outted what happens? This is gonna go on for weeks and months. Can't wait for people to wonder why we allowed Jimmy Paige to openly date a 13year old for years. That one still fucks my head up.

 

I think when it's a persob close to you, you have to be a little more careful in how you respond... i mean look, this has been out just 24 hours, we havent heard from Jesse/BN yet, there might be a lot more of thw story to come. Let's just have a little bit of patience before we castigate everyone tangentially attached to the story.

Since it's begun, who the fuck remembers when Richard Reines(owner of Drive Thru Records) would invite teenage bands wanting to be signed to his hotel rooms and have them walk on his back while he wore a robe. I know two different bands that were in high school when this happened.

 

I think it's hard to believe when it's somebody you think you know. Someone who's close to you, I've retweeted all the allegations that I've seen, but if there were allegations about my brother I'd probably stop and talk to him due to the complete 180 of my personal beliefs of that person whom I know.

 

I just keep thinking more and more how much of a miracle it is that nothing like this never happened to me. I started going to shows at 12 and always got there like 8 hours early to try to meet people and hang out and wander around by myself or with friends my age and it never occurred to me how vulnerable I was every single time. Warped Tour 2005 I even got one of those street team backstage passes which gave me complete access to the bus area and I thought it was so cool that I spent a ton of the day there instead of actually seeing bands, now looking back and knowing just how rampant this was I feel petrified for my past self. Also makes me wonder why they even offered that as a perk in the first place.

 

This happened yesterday. Give people time to gather their thoughts and not respond emotionally, especially when some people who work for the band very likely didn’t know this in advance

 

I have been falsely accused of assault myself. Idk. It's not something I enjoy bringing up a ton because the accuser was someone who actually assaulted me and was trying to cover their ass and discredit me before I could accuse them and it was messy and bad and a continuation of abuse. I don't really blame anyone who believes them tho. I'd do the same if someone told me a story like that. They're just trying to look out for and support someone in their life. I don't condemn those people or lament over my tarnished reputation. And even tho that accusation was false, it doesn't mean many or most of them are, and I certainly don't use my example as a way to discredit others. It was a weird fluke in the stats, and an exception. Idk. Just a ~different perspective from someone who has been falsely accused I guess.

He bought me a taco once, that was nice of him. He’s still probably very creepy and that story is definitely true (band member that told me wasn’t underage but I’m sure there were underage ones too)

I remember talking to my one buddy about it at like 25 and us thinking how fucking creepy it was that he made bands so that. Now with Weinstein out and the things he forced into people, it was just a weird creepy power move

 

Yeah, it’s one of those things I never thought much of because the people I knew who did it weren’t adamantly against it or anything but you’re right, it makes you think about the power dynamics in play
