Thanks, I've always lurked for years and I love this space. You guys have created something awesome here, I should of posted long ago.

Brand New were the band you could listen to when things were shit, made like everything would be okay but now they're the reason why everything isn't okay so what do you do. (Well not the whole band but ya know what I mean)

 

Sadly, I'm expecting radio silence.

 

yeah BN/Jesse need to say something ASAP

As for associated artists like MO, The Front Bottoms, Kevin (maybe moreso KD now that he's technically a part of the band), while I hope and think they will speak out, I think pressing them to say something is kinda weird. I'd like to think this is new information to them and they are maybe processing a lot right now.

this isn't directed at anyone here, just a lot of what I've seen on twitter today aimed at them

 

This band helped me get through my own sexual trauma, and to think I've idolized a sexual predator is heartbreaking. I hope she finds peace, and that more of this rot can be uprooted and exposed

 

im really afraid they wont say anything and thats going to really really bum me out more

KevDev, ManOrch, and whomever else is like really really close with BN need to also come out and like, condemn this or acknowledge it or something because I'm sure they were at least aware of this.

 

I dno... i don’t know if a band like Manchester needs to say anything. Andy didn’t even say anything about Science Fiction coming out on social media. I think Kevin is really the only one I’m expecting a response from since he is playing in the band. But i don’t know. I’m still really rattled by this info.

 

The current (and future?) silence from the band (more specifically Jesse) says they don't think her experience is important or serious enough to warrant a response. Which is a terrible message to send.

In a way the absence of a statement/acknowledgement is a statement of itself.

The longer it takes to say something the more I feel like some PR/lawyers are helping prepare it.

 

the reason i think they should is just given how close theyve been and how long theyve known Brand New and Jesse. But yeah, Kevin is more culpable in this situation for sure. I dont think itll like, ruin either of them for me if they dont say anything but it would be nice.

honestly i just hope the victim is doing alright because im sure all of this attention is both good and bad.

 

I can’t say I won’t keep listening to their songs. It feels a little weird at the moment but ultimately i relate a lot of their songs to things that went on in my life, not Jesse Lacey’s, and that’s why I like so many of them so much.

I don’t think it was ever a secret that Jesse was a creep back in the day...it’s not like his extreme catholic guilt hasn’t been showing since at least Deja, and it’s not like lyrics to songs like Me vs. Maradonna are subtle...but I think we all probably assumed he was creeping on women his age, despite the relatively ‘common knowledge’ (whether it’s true or not, it has been the internet rumor for forever) that the girl who inspired at least a couple of the songs on YFW was like 17 at the time and Jesse was like 22...But asking for nudes from a 15 year old, repeatedly, and stringing that young girl along until she’s of age so you can have sex with her, it goes beyond being a scummy guy who’s trying to sleep with girls over the weekend. Now you’re a predator. And from all accounts, even if you realized later on how fucking wrong it was, you apparently didn’t do anything to make amends for it, like at least offer the girl an apology, and now it makes your strange aversion to any attention for the last decade+ seem like this was something you feared coming out in the back of your mind.

So yes, we all knew you were a sketch dude back in the day, now we hear you were a predator too. Do something about it. You can’t erase this, this will be part of your legacy, so accept that, apologize and grovel to this woman and anyone else, and dedicate the rest of your life to making a change in the music scene so that young girls like your daughter who will be a teenager in 13 years are protected and safe. You’re a big enough name that a project you start up to do this would gain plenty of traction. You’re not going to be forgiven, but at least you can try and help others.

 

Honestly I’m not. I know this is ~~Brand New and they do things a way... but no. This isn’t some album tease. I will literally be SHOCKED in the worst way possible if they just ignore this.

 

I would guess that Manchester orchestra are probably waiting to see what kind of statement BN put out before they do.

And Kevin is probably waiting because he's kind of in BN now and doesn't want to speak out of turn, giving Jesse and the band a chance first.

I feel like BN have to respond to this by tomorrow, they don't really have a choice at this point. And I would guess if they don't we'll hear from the other bands around them pretty soon

B) making some sort of defence


I guess silence could be C but Kevin won’t stay silent on this

 

I honestly anticipate a drop out. Lord knows i could be wrong, but he just seems like such a stand up guy.

Me too. They surely couldn’t just go ahead with them without addressing the situation? I’ve seen so many people say they’re not going to go anymore too.

 

I wouldn’t be totally surprised if the band just disappeared and we never heard from them again. It would be really messed up but it wouldn’t surprise me.

 

I know i keep saying this and I’m probably kind of beating a dead horse at this point, but i really do think with Kevin in the band that is the game changer for hearing from them, or at least hearing from him (i guess i consider Kevin part of the brand new camp)

 

I vividly remember standing in the middle of August Burns Red's pit at Warped Tour in 2011. ADTR was also on the lineup and I remember Jake listing bands he was happy to be there with.

ADTR was named and I screamed out "That band has pedophiles in it."

A couple thousand people looked at me very confused.

And that rumor eventually died.

 

I honestly can’t see the band not responding. I think before disappearing could have worked. But with Kevin being added to the mix now, I think they know that could fuck up Kevin’s career. And while I’m sure they give no shits about Brand New’s longevity, I don’t think they’d risk tanking Kevin’s.
