I've lurked these forums since back in the AP days, never posted. I feel the need to now though because I feel like I have no where else to go or anyone to talk to about this, so hey hi.

So this band is my life well now was I guess. As cliche as it sounds this band saved my life. I'm devasted I'm sad and completely lost. I'm flying from Australia to see them in London next weekend and I'll sheepishly admit I feel a bit stupid now, also wouldn't be surprised if the tour was cancelled and I highly doubt a statement would be made ( although it fucking should be)

In saying this, I'm not trying to make this about myself. I know it's not easy to come out about abuse of any kind. I can't pick and choose when to speak up against abusers when it suits me, none of this is okay. I'm 100% behind the victim

I don't know what to say, just needed someone to know I'm so fucking sad

 

I didn't mean for that to come across as me diminishing anything. Perhaps there is a different term I could use besides bombshell?

I honestly think there is some miscommunication or something going on here, let’s just move on if he says he is siding with the victim

 

I think the problem was more saying "just" an accusation. Sound like minimizing the first hand account.

 

so responding to "woman publicly shares fairly specific accounts of abuse" with "does she have evidence" is pretty uncool because the story is the evidence and you're directly countering that when you phrase whatever you're trying to say like that. avoid negating the assumption that she's telling the truth

 

I suppose the issue was the miscommunication between me asking if she had any supplementary (complementary?) Not sure the usage here) material instead of it being taken as. "The accusation doesn't matter. I need other evidence"

 

Yeah, we can move on but we should try to express why there's negative connotations with his posts, I'm sure there's going to me more victims coming out, not just about JL but anybody and everyone should learn about how to respond and the micro aggressions associated with certain statements.

Saying something you don’t agree with doesn’t mean someone is an asshole with malicious intent. I know that’s not a popular stance on this site, but I don’t think @BoldTitan is trying to discredit her, or be negative in general. Don’t mean to derail or anything. The mob mentality around here can get really bad though. And it really bums me out.

I actually really do think people saying they “need other evidence” when a woman shares a story about abuse like this is an asshole.

 

not trying to pile on but coincidentally Autumn Lavis just tweeted this about the supposed need for evidence and I think it's relevant and thoughtful and should be read by literally everyone

 

That last sentence is why you're making people uncomfortable. Would you need evidence if it was your mom? Your sister? Your girlfriend? Your daughter?

I think he was just asking if there was, not saying he needed it in order to believe her. Idk. I just get like, flashbacks to being bullied by big groups of people when I see one person getting shit from a bunch of people on here. I don’t think it’s particularly good to judge people so harshly, so swiftly though. Especially online.

 

why does it not surprise me that people are in here who care more about evidence than someone whos going through this kind of abuse

yeah we gotta worry about the people that say dumb shit we dont want to hurt their feelings while we discuss a guy who has been sexually abusing a minor

hope the band makes a statement and i really really believe that Manorch and Kevin and any others who theyre very close with need to make a statement or thats going to be really icky
