This story is fascinating to me because of the genuine obsession and cult like following they've bred

Why does he feel the need to “sound in”?
    He should’ve retired it before.

Did you read all of his tweets? He probably felt like expressing how he felt about this like a lot of us here

I was in rehab a few months ago and a friend of mine said his girlfriend at the time went to one of their shows and she was at the bar drinking and he started acting like a complete creep and asshole to her. He said she told him to get lost but didn't know it was Jesse until they came on stage...I didn't believe the kid but hearing this is interesting

i have friends tied (closely) to the long island scene who always had vague comments about BN being terrible people (i adore(d) this band btw). i always wondered how this site would react if some shit went down with them and i can honestly say i'm proud of most of you. there are a handful that are mindless dickheads, but i'm glad most of you are level headed and believe victims.

Because there are very likely bad things done by him.

elaborating on my post above ^^, i thought/hoped they were just rumors started by people in bands who were jealous of BN's success. glad this woman's story is being taken seriously this time around, and i'm sure there are more to come.

I think it's more geared toward the fact that he had some issues with Jesse in the past and the song could sound skewed toward a situation like this, even though that's not what the song is about. He has a good explanation for his choice to retire it now, in my opinion

This is heartbreaking for the victim and so brave of this person to say this in our misogynistic culture. I feel sick knowing how much the band meant in my formative years. That can’t be disconnected from my past. While that is true, what is also true is that believing the victim gives a voice to those who have none, and helps rip away at this gross culture of sexual abuse in all walks of life.

Every hour that passes without anything from the band makes me think they are going to be very "brand new silent mysterious" about it and it will never be addressed at all.

Which is not cool. Prove me wrong Jesse.

I've been staring at my computer for like 7 hours waiting for the band, Kevin, anyone to say something. It feels worse every hour that passes without anything.

  19. It's heartbreaking to hear this. As a long time fan, the decision to separate the music that means so much to me and a person's action will be tough. I'm eager to hear what Brand New and their team has to say, as we all know many of the latter are very active in support of women who have come forward regarding other men. At the very least, I would like to see Jesse own up and apologize for his actions.

Also came here to say this. For as long as I've been actively involved in going to shows on LI(starting in 2009), rumors and accusations of band members and those just in the scene have been rampant. If anything actually came to light, that person was ostracized for a month and then everything was "back to normal." Unfortunately there is a very privileged and "good dude, backed hard" mentality there.

Regarding the Harry situation - he's still touring, he still has close friends in acclaimed bands in the pop punk and hardcore scene. He's still guest listed and side stage for the same bands who deplored him when the allegations came out. I remember being at Transit's last LI show last year and No Good News came out to do a surprise reunion, I was appalled but there was most of the room excited and singing along like nothing ever happened.

Unfortunately this is cyclical and why many women I know don't want to share their stories.

...My heart is broken. Having survived sexual assault, having to rebuild my life and my sanity piece by piece, I just can’t believe this band I have spent over a decade loving, the music that helped heal me when I was hurting...

I’m at a loss. I feel sick. How could you, Jesse?

    Aaaachem!

I’m proud that we seem to have reached the tipping point, as a society, of no longer ignoring or trivializing this kind of behavior. It makes me feel icky that I want to support the victims but can’t help mourning the loss of admired artists as well... Might as well get used to it though, the floodgates are open now. Justice is better late than never, I hope.

Has another story broken or is it another “been floating around for years and ignored” situation?

There's been some amazing stuff in this thread and I'm super proud that the reaction has overall been what it was, but I just have to point out that this particular comment is really unfair and upsetting to see. Insinuating that you have to have done despicable things to experience depression and self-loathing or other symptoms of mental illness is just such a harmful thing to say. Hating yourself and feeling like you're worthless and living in despair happens every single day without needing a "shameful past". I don't want anyone else reading this thread who related to BN specifically because they've gone through the same things to feel like they must really be a terrible person to feel that way or that that's how others view them.

Everything else I feel has already been stated. Horrified that a band that has gotten me through some of the darkest times in my life could be using that very status to hurt women, disgusted that another man who has molded so much of my worldview turns out to be someone who I shouldn't let into my head at all, grieving another loss while still in the middle of so many other recent ones, terrified thinking of what this poor woman went through then and has gone through for years and will most likely have to go through more now because of how awful people in general and BN fans specifically can be. I hope for the sake of innocent people that there aren't any more stories to come out about him, but based on this thread I can't imagine that's the case. I hope if there are more to come that they all have the support to do it and feel safe.
