Not to state the obvious, but man oh man. 15? 15 is a freshman or sophomore in high school. 15 can't drive. 15 is still developing physically, as well as emotionally. 15 is a child. A fucking child.

I love Brand New's music, and have for a lot of years. But this is about the sexual abuse and harassment of a child, as well as exposing oneself and soliciting nude photos from a fucking child.

The initial shock of 'Jesse Lacey' has subsided for me, and has been replaced with the shock of just how heinous this is. And I cannot imagine caring about where Science Fiction is on a year end list in comparison to the abuse of a child. Fuck.

 

This fucking sucks. This should never happen. Nobody should ever have to feel this, i hope the victim(s) are okay and feeling supported right now.

 

This hurts bad. There's no getting around it: they've been a piece of my identity for a long time, and I'm not sure what to do with that now. Deeply disappointed.

I was about to say "I thought Dylan McDermott was kind of a scumbag" then I remembered it was just his character in that first AHS season. Glad he's a cool dude

 

I'm curious to who in their team and surrounding groups actually knew about this specific type of thing going on. Most everyone knows Jesse has been/can be a dickhead, I would assume that includes people he is close with. Its highly possible some people close to BN/PMT! knew about this happening last year when the victim made their previous post. I'm very curious to see how this all shakes out and my thoughts are with the victim. Brand New is a huge part of my life and I'm not sure what that will mean for me now after this happening.

 

Funny, because removing Science Fiction from my top 10 is something I specifically did this afternoon, and I'm going to make a note of that when I submit my list.

 

I should know better than to judge the characters of people I've had very little conversation with on there public appearance, but I think/HOPE we'll get astatement from Kevin Devine and Andy Hull (if not M.O. as a whole) because I WANT to believe there's no way they would associate themselves with Jesse knowing about this.

It may speak partially of my flaws but mostly a sarcastic caricature of someone I've never been at all and is no longer appropriate during this crisis."

If I read everything correctly she said this happened when Jesse was 24? And now Jesse is 39? That’s 15 years ago. 2002. Skype was invented in 2003. And also, how hard would it have been to have a video chat in 2002. YouTube wasn’t even around yet. Video was hard to even get, especially live streaming video.

 

Bemis has had his questionable moments in the past, but this is the right call and it's a heartening move.

(And on another note, he's absolutely right and it's nice to see someone with a platform publicly say it: (chronic) cheating is absolutely emotional abuse.)

Video chat was very easy in 2002. I did it all the time in college. Shitty resolution, but definitely doable.

(Also Skype is a stand-in term for video chat. This kinda gotcha stuff is not helpful.)
