I actually had a thought a couple months ago that they COULD go really electronic on a new album. I would be into it.

We reach for the longest shadow

It's such vivid imagery, and the quietness of that moment lends to the explosion of the second part. My favorite musical passage as well as lyrical.

We reach for the longest shadow

"And my dirty hair in your lap will be the feathers in the grass
But for now your sugar the sap in my selfish glass
You want to be planted beneath the leaves
Bloom and blow with the breeze
But not yet, but not now
    "We can always be found""

Good grief, didn't know until looking at Genius now that "We Can Always Be Found" was a song played at Kyle's wedding. The Queen seems like the most underrated track on this, if you can call any of them underrated.

EDIT: the song is actually by Liars called The Other Side of Mt. Heart Attack.

I agree that Keep You is a lot more accessible, but I think that's part of what makes it all the more devastating.

Yeah for me it's close between that part in April and this from Say Nothing

    I thought about the rust,
the quote on the ledge about living on
    "that great consciousness of life,"
oh, what we frame and hang to get by.
    Whatever keeps your heart light,
whatever keeps you is all right by me,
but maybe I don't want to talk about how this life layed me down,
or how I saw the change because I didn't see you everyday,
unspoken looks and what the leaving took,
a lack of noise isn't a lack of life,
and that's the way I think it's always been
because, "I say it all, when I say nothing at all,"

shoutout to Late Lives as well.
    "Gone a little too soon
But I know you hated being late
And I guess you arrived right on time
    And I'm still here
Still on this side of the grass
But lately I'm feeling halfway there
And that's a long time for late lives and separate failures
With not much to show but a lack of posture
I know I drove myself to this"

Since all of my favorites have already been posted, I'll share my next favorite part. The ending to Ripple Water Shine:

"I'm still waiting for that drink at Otto's,
I'm still always slowly waiting for what follows,
for what I've learned about being so defined by someone dying,
and for thinking before I speak,
    hoping for something bigger,
    but it's a size I cant teach,
    for how things were,
    or how they should be,
like a bolt from the blue,
    you left me that belief"

It's still mid 80s in Texas, but a cold front is blowing in tomorrow. You best believe Keep You is getting a spin then.

first one is from TLLA but still

"I wish I could find a god's teeth to grit them for him
I'd cut off his ears, put them to my heart, he'd hear me break
I'd make it obvious to see
Show him a face like water frozen over
    A face that's absorbed everything
Show him it was the wrong day
Show him that i?ve seen my reach
    Explain to me"

    _____________________________________________________________________

    "And like you said
"sometimes you just shouldn't know, shouldn't ask,"
And I've been rushing through the world without a chance to really see
I've been rushing through the world
And oh, I've been so touch and go
I find myself moving my legs to make sure I still can
And telling myself I don't have time
I'll just wait and curse the day"

    crushing

yeah, that first one is a good example of TLLA being a more crushing record than Keep You. Goodness. That second one is one of my favorite moments from the "touch and go" part on. It's even better live. That song is the biggest night and day between studio/live.

spine is, in 4:15 seconds, more crushing than all other pianos songs put together. the slow build from liquid courage, to the utter chaos of the start of spine is so cathartic. and then

"Life goes on because it has to, these things
They never leave, they stay with you
    The smell of the viewing
    Your friends singing your praises
The flower boot that never bloomed until we lost you
The first Christmas we suffered through
    Room 211, kissing your head
The last look into your eyes
Not having the words to say thank you
    Say good bye"

    fuck.

To quote Pinegrove, "I should call my parents when I think of them, should tell my friends that I love them."

Spine was also the first song released before TLLA, and it was a huge step up from Old Pride, and it was pretty awesome to hear that initially prior to the album being released.

EDIT: Now that I think about it, the last two tracks released first for the album have been my favorites from them. Spine and Repine.

seriously though haha, making me super nostaglic for my srkamz phase, Old Pride was such a big deal for me when it came out. That being said, I remembered enjoying Keep You a lot more than I expected and will definitely listen to this.

I discovered PBTT because I had a friend who talked about "wave" bands. La Dispute, Touche Amore, Make Do and Mend, Defeater, and PBTT. Old Pride was the only thing out, and I gravitated more towards that one than most of the others. I still enjoy all of those bands, but PBTT is definitely my favorite.

Yeah, I mean, people will definitely favor the old stuff, but there isn't one of those that wouldn't be contested by a lot to be the best. Obviously not everyone though.
