"Over and Over Again" and "The Divine Absence" were my easy favourites.

So the guitar work we've heard in the first two songs is no fluke and Justin brought a stripped down, At the Drive In'esque tone? Colour me excited!

This album and Circa Survive's new album will be great listens back to back tomorrow at work.

This album honestly is reminding me of Closure in Moscow's Pink Lemonade, which is NOT a comparison I was expecting to make for a fucking The Used record in 2017. This is a weird album, and I love that about it.

Their best since Artwork. A lot of ambition, and very raw. Solid 8/10 for this guy. I'll be making the journey through this many more times for sure.

The album is totally overwhelming me, I know I really enjoy what it's doing but it's going to take a lot more time for me to rank it in their discog.

I’ve not listened yet but that’s disappointing to hear. I was really hoping for a return to form but I had very big doubts to begin with!

The Nexus is my favorite so far. That and Selfies in Aleppo.

An inconsequential shift as the continents drift.

For the record, from only halfway through, Over and Over Again is not even close to the best song. It's a catchy first single but not much more. There's so much more to digest here, but Upper Falls is a legitimate contender for their best song ever.

I actually really love Bert's voice on this record.

This is the best thing they've released since self-titled. Hands down for me. It's incredible.

Which disc do people prefer? 1 feels more complete to me, The Divine Absence being an incredible mid-album closer, but 2 arguably has higher highs because it starts and ends so well.

this is pretty great, definitely caught me off guard, almost everything about it. the production is very raw but it creates a certain vibe that really works for the album. the songs are inspired and i love that they have room to breathe and do what they want to do. every single song on here has something really interesting about it, and at least one really great section, which is a pretty great feat for a 17 song album, nothing on here sounds like filler surprisingly. bert has tons of personality with his voice here, and even if he can't quite reach the highs and screams of his youth, there's a lot of cool parts here and i kinda like that he went all out, there's some stuff that should be bad but somehow it's really good. and the instrumentation is impressive. some cool effects tie the themes of the album together too, like what sounds like an analog delay on most of the screams. can't wait to get a few more listens in and get to know this album!

I was really into this band around the self-titled and ILAD-era. I fell off really hard on them over the years....a lot of their stuff doesn't age well but some of it's okay. I also feel like their later albums really lacked "something" and are pretty terrible.

    Starting a listen now......

Edit- Weird, awkward, way to start the album....kind of like that...kind of dont.

Anyone notice the second "I've been standing here this whole time...."On my own!" yell is sung similarly to the track "On my own!" yell from the self-titled album?

I probably prefer disc 2 overall, just because like you said, it has higher highs... and I think some of those highs are career bests.

I love going into a record for the first time when I see posts like this with so much difference in opinion. Wonder which side I'll fall on!

I was talking to a friend who's a huge fan of this band last night... His initial take was that a lot of these songs showed a lot of promise but fell short largely due to the production/mixing, we debated for well over an hour haha. I love having those conversations about new music, and I think this may end up being a polarizing album but one that provokes a lot of discussion.
