As the album moves along...I keep getting Envy On The Coast vibes. Specifically from Justin's guitar licks and heavier choruses.

 

"The Divine Absence (This is Water)" is easily the best song so far.

Ah man, I'm really loving this personally, and I wasn't that big into their last two records. Then again I'm big into progressive post-hardcore so it's dope to see them go so far into that direction.

 

There are some screams...but they sound like he's (If its even him) screaming through a filter. I swear Anthony Green makes an appearance in Selfies In Aleppo

 

There was like one so far but it was really weird and sounded more like a generic metalcore dude than Bert. He strains his voice a lot though.

 

I forgot about the rap haha.

Early impression from me is honest to God that this is behind ILAD in basically the same ranking as yours. The fucking ambition on this thing is so admirable imo, I'm loving it.

 

"Over and Over Again" is by far the best song on this album as of right now.

That's awesome. I'm gonna hold off til I buy it and play it in the car but based on the impressions in here I'm psyched

 

You've got to admire the fucking ambition on this thing if nothing else. They did NOT play it safe. Imo they had been getting progressively safer with each 2010s release (besides Ocean and the Sky, and that one didn't exactly work out haha) and this totally goes "NOPE FUCK THAT". This is the first time I think they've stepped this far out of their musical comfort zone across a full album.

 

Yup. Very ambitious album and its a breath of fresh air for them and for me as a fan.

 

Broken Windows is a fun song.

 

I'm at Vertigo Cave. I'm enjoying what I hear so far.

 

This closer is one of several moments where I get strong Coheed vibes on this thing haha

I just finished my first listen and I'm honestly really impressed. I was at the Huntington Beach acoustic show where they debuted "About You" and the album version is so different yet so cool.

 

This is so not what I expect from a Used record haha

Overall this is the third time in a row where I've been excited for a new album from them based on loving the first single and then being disappointed when it's easily the best song on the album.
