I am so confused. I finally set up my turnable and receiver in my new apartment. Only the right speaker was working. I unplugged everything, including the connections from the receiver to the speakers. When I turned it back on, only the RIGHT side was working. Repeat the same process, turn it back on and only the LEFT side was working again.

PS Skip School, Start Fights by HTL is being pressed. 250 copies. White with splatter was already sold out so I grabbed clear with splatter. $20 with shipping.

Just got HTL. My sister gave me that CD when it first came out. Still my favorite by them.

Currently debating between the U-Turn Orbit Basic and Plus. Anyone on the forum tell me what they like about theirs?

I started with the basic. It was great for me when I was starting out. I eventually added on to it to make it more like the plus. Changed to the acrylic platter, upgraded the needle, and got their tone arm queue for pausing. If you don't want to do the plus right away you can always add on. Definitely get the tone arm queue though. When I first got it not being able to pause was annoying.

By pause do you mean lifting the tone arm? Because you should always have a lift as your less likely to damage the needle dropping it down

Yes, for dropping/lifting the tone arm. The basic doesn't come with it. You have to manually put the needle down without it.

I just want to echo that the cue lever is a must have for the U-Turn. Also I have a Custom which I built to essentially be the same as the Special, just in blue because I don't like the wood finishes they offer (its been an awesome setup btw). I'd say you should def go for the Plus if you're choosing between that and the Basic. I'm assuming the Ortofon needle is way better than the one on the basic, along with the acrylic plate being a nice upgrade. The way I see it, if you plan on upgrading stuff eventually, might as well just make the jump now unless you're strapped for cash atm.

Yeah, I have the acrylic and the red Ortofon needle and I love it so much

I don’t know much in terms of platters and needles, but I heard the acrylic upgrade isn’t too major. Is there a noticeable difference from the MDF to that?

Apologies, only just seen your post. Unfortunately, I never got to go to the store. We were cut short for time as we had been trying to squeeze as much stuff to do in NY as possible every day. Saint Vitus was great though. I got a few videos of AWS. So good! I’m still loving that I bumped into the band before the show. My girlfriend got a good photo too.

Is the platter upgrade really that significant? As of right now I am considering the following:

    U-Turn Orbit Basic
    • MDF platter and CN5625AL cartridge
    • Built-in preamp (added)
    • Cue lever (added)
    U-Turn Orbit Plus
    • Acrylic platter and Ortfon OM5E cartridge
    • Built-in preamp (added)
    • Cue lever (added)
Going to pair either of these with the Audioengine A2+ Powered Speakers.

The acrylic platter is really nice but not totally necessary. The main difference between the two is a decrease in vibration since the acrylic is heavier/more dense (1lb heavier according to their site). It is a subtle difference and in all honesty, part of the reason I went with it is it just looks nicer. I do think the cartridge difference is fairly significant though. The CN5625AL is just the standard cart you'd get from audio technica whereas the ortofon is a pretty big jump in quality imo

I'm torn between the two for what is ultimately a $110 difference. $200 if I actually went for the wood base, which I am not sold on.

  25. For anyone that lives in SoCal, found a copy of Science Fiction at Normal Records for $29. Its the red and blue pressing. Obviously not the cheapest but you'd get out of paying shipping and also get the cool variant!
