I haven't heard of them, I'll have to check them out. I do vocals/guitar/keys. The "band" (air quotes necessary) is me and my friend who plays drums.

To be honest, I don't remember what the title was supposed to be or mean. Due to some miscommunication I ended up left to my own devices at the recording studio for an afternoon, and somewhere between procrastinating and getting drunk I decided I needed a soundtrack for my self loathing, but couldn't find anything on spotify that hit the right spot so I decided to record something myself.
Thanks! I really appreciate it. These tracks are off of an album that me and a friend recorded four years ago. We kept intending to release it, but kept pushing it aside for other friend's projects and other responsibilities. We revisited the idea of releasing the album after some friends encouraged us to give the album and band thing a real shot. We've just started mixing it (these versions on the comp are rough mixes, unmastered) so we're hoping to have it finished by December.

  2. For sure, yeah those comparisons were mostly just to the vocals. The rest of the music is very independent of either of those examples! I'm gonna have to check those two band syou mentioned out, I've heard of Cult Of Luna but never dug in.

  3. Yeah give 'em a listen! In retrospect, the parallels are pretty thin, but still a decent band to check out. Afterglow is a good song to start with if you're just looking for a taste.

:crylaugh: love the story that goes with that second song. Do you work at or own a studio or were you just in the middle of recording for something else?

Pumped to hear what the final product sounds like, please post in here or DM me when you're all finished up!

Thank you so much mate, my vocals are something I'm always harsh on so the fact that you picked those out as something you enjoyed in both tracks actually makes me melt a little, so thanks a lot!

I'm 11 tracks in, and every track so far is a 10/10. Also this sequencing is like, top notch. Well done, good ear, etc. @bradsonemanband

Thank you so much @trevorshmevor ! Hummingbird was a much more personal one, so it means a lot that you liked it. Wrote at least 4 or 5 seperate versions of the lyrics before settling with that.

  7. Haha thanks! It was a real son of a bitch to sequence. Glad other people dig it too!

Hummingbird @Mr. Serotonin - This is a great uplifting track. The subject matter isn't necessarily happy, but underneath there seems to be a message of acceptance after loss. The production on this is top notch. I love the chorus and that bridge is wonderful.

Infinite Bedsheets @nfdv2 - I love the choice to only have two guitars as the instruments, especially the warm tone on the rhythm guitar. It gives the song a nice raw simplicity.

The Consequence @teebs41 - This is great, especially the bit after the 2nd chorus. It changes the vibe of the song a little, makes it bouncy, but still keeps the mood and then I like how it subverts the expectation to go back into the chorus and has this quieter outro.

Change Now @elemenohpe - This is a facemelter for sure. The rhythm section and guitars kept my head banging the whole time and I like the interchange between the screams and cleans, especially in the second verse.

Hard Hard Heart @Wall Of Arms - The vocals on this track are haunting and I love the introduction of that moaning guitar in the second verse. Great job.

Thanks @aoftbsten that’s exactly what we were going for! The bridge actually includes a conversation my brother and I had, and then we just reversed it and put it in the background a little.

    Really glad you liked it!

Alright, hopping back on the train. First song up today is another one of mine, so I'll quote my little tidbit about it here.

  11. @thewmaynes Nutmeg State - the beginning of this reminded me a lot of The Office theme song lol. Immediate smile. Love that you just stuck to an acoustic with a bass and drums on this. Gives off a very laid back vibe for being such an energetic song. Overall a very fun listen and I think those layered vocals at the end work really well!

@Common Conversation Higher Ground - catchy little piano line at the start! That half step at the end of the full phrase took me by surprise. All of the little blips and stuff that build up as the song works its way to that sped up portion were cool. This could have easily had drums in it but I liked that you really committed to the synth carrying the rhythm for most of the song. Gives the song a very charming quality.

@Jdaniels Gloria - poured your heart out on this one too, I see! I like the melody you used for the "wish I could say it gets better" line. You should try overdubbing harmonies sometime to accentuate the good melodies you come up with! Another good track dude, enjoyed my listen.

Thanks a lot, man. Appreciate the kind words! We're working on an EP for this project that will likely drop later this month or in November. Will definitely post it!

  14. I'm so happy everyone is writing reviews and talking about their songs, etc. I want to do the same thing when I get a chance. You guys are awesome. I love how supportive our little community in here is. Keep it up!

Nothing to See Here @cbaksa & @colemanbright - Really great production. I love the slow burn feel of the track. I'm also a big sucker for the quick "ahh!" scream throw in. When those are placed in a song correctly, it's pure gold as far as I'm concerned.

Plans @bodkins & @alexmelton - That bass line at the beginning is awesome and then the awesome beat just carries on into the rest of the song. More strong PVRIS vibes here, you guys really have that sound down.

Rent @Pseudo! - I love this song. The way it build towards the end in fantastic. I love that little pull off guitar riff that echoes between chords. Very well crafted and impactful song.

Corners @trevorshmevor - Oh man that breakdown in the middle hits all the right buttons for me. I also love the vocal delivery right before that breakdown. She sounds great, but there's a hint of instability in the delivery that really helped me connect.

Nutmeg State @thewmaynes - Acoustic guitar over drums and electric bass is underutilized by most bands, as is the harmonic. You do a great job with both here. Great opening line too ("hey darling, hit the radio, make it pop, don't give me classic rock).

Higher Ground @Common Conversation - This is one of those songs that just puts me in a good mood. I love the little piano riff. The transition into the chorus after the area where tempo picks up is also seamless and very well done.

fuck i should pay attention to this thread more often and stay up with the comps. im doing a shit job at that lately. cant wait to check out the tunes.

  18. @aoftbsten thanks for listening to the submissions! Glad you're enjoying them so far. Haha yeah regarding the heavy part in Corners - when we were coming up the other main local bands were The Maine and The Summer Set, and then basically a bunch of carbon copies of those two. So we made it a point to be different and not be afraid to really rock out every now and then, we were notorious for bringing the headbangers out at the neon pop shows. Glad it hit the spot for you, that was always a fun one to play live.

The track I submitted I had to record all in one take, and you'll notice that in one point my guitar hits the microphone and at a point not long after I pronounce a P too over zealously and my lack of pop filter is noticeable. I said 10 points to anyone who notices the guitar bed, and I haven't had anyone notice yet.

don't think i could do track by track write ups (major props to the people that have!) but I've heard about a third of the comp intermittently thus far and just wanna say that I am very impressed by the overall level of creativity and production skill, it's been cool to get to hear stuff from people i've mostly heard covers from :)

I’m gonna have to check this out very slowly due to being really busy with moving and getting out of current job. Might have to skim a bit, but will definitely try and mention highlights for me.

  24. @Mr. Serotonin Old Friends - the guitar tone opening the song is awesome! The bass player has stood out to me on all of your tracks as well, some really cool runs in there. That was a well done surprise key change at the end too, I always have such a hard time with those and you guys nailed it. This one has a really nice groove to it that sets it apart from the other two while it still carries the same vibe. Your voice really ties it all together. Love where you place your harmonies.

@troyplaysbass Float - cool that you were able to throw multiple projects into this mix! This one rocks a little more than the other one, nice to hear that side of you. I am a sucker for dual vocals, especially when it's a male/female combo, so this one it automatically a win for me. Love how present her voice is, can't tell if it's the mix or just the way she sings but it's very in-your-face and powerful sounding. Getting some light The Morning Of vibes from this track.

@TedSchmosby Moon - the way you sing in the first two minutes of this reminded me of early Ace Enders days! Always have trouble distinguishing between phasers and flangers, but I like that you had that effect going on throughout the song, and then later doubling an acoustic guitar over it. Made for a cool dynamic combo. The doubling vocals towards the end were nice too! I couldn't quite catch what the little tidbit was at the end there but it made me laugh anyway lol

I'll let my roommate know -- that was him singing on the track! He's never played music before, but a few days ago he asked me to write a song with him, so I just played guitar on it and gave him a bit of advice while he wrote the lyrics. Everything on my other track coming up is me though
