I'm going to specifically submit a song I would think works well as an opener and a closer so we will see!

 

Sent mine in. By the way, when everyone is exporting their tracks how big are they usually? One of mine was like 60 MB and I'm not sure if that's normal or not haha.

 

I'm not sure of the size but whenever I export a song from GarageBand I get a notification that there isn't enough space on my phone, and because I don't have pictures or apps, I have to delete songs to make room

 

Would you guys rather this be one long compilation, or made into two?

 

Maybe a compromise of the two? Release it all at once but make like a double album that way if you get a bit more leeway with the track order if you have 2 really good openers or closers.

 

Yeah I think it'd be a good idea to split it into two separate volumes

 

If I split it into two comps, they'll both be released together, for sure.

 

This might be the most pessimistic thought, but part of me feels like we should cut submissions to two per person. If not, I think it should still be put out as one long comp. it’s a lot easier to share one comp with people than it is to direct them to two separate volumes of one. But idk. I’m really fine with whatever.

I actually thought this too, at least with cover comps because it can mean a huge chunk of an artists' directory is claimed by just two/three people if they both picked three songs each.

 

have everybody pick one of their songs to be featured on the first comp, and then put the other songs on the second comp?

 

also i'm gonna send mine at the same time but i'm still working on bass/drums for one, would it be okay to send in at like 2am est?

Honestly, I was thinking particularly for the originals. Just because covers participation kind of varies based on how many people here like the artist that month is featuring. Originals though, I imagine most of us at least dabble in writing and I know a lot of people could be submitting for the first time just because they viewed this as a maybe easy way for free publicity.

The covers, I haven’t been able to participate since the Fall Out Boy one. But if it’s not already being done, I think it would be smart to limit calling out songs to just one at a time. Like, when the artist is announced, make it so people can’t call a second song for 3-4 days. That way everyone has a better chance of getting to do the one they want. And then after that period, open up to 1 more. And if participation isn’t super high, add a 3rd slot for people. Idk.

Just sent my mine in this morning. It is a seven year old song by my old band.

A collab. He's never played music before but I asked him to sing Everlong while I played drums the other day and we ended up writing a song a day later. We just spent theee hours recording it in a bus shelter and I'm really excited to send it in!

 

Each month or so, we decide on a theme, whether that be originals, themed or a specific band, and we submit songs that fall into that category. For example, this month is originals, so we had the opportunity to submit original songs that we or our bands have recorded. Last month though, we did Brand New, so we had the opportunity to submit Brand New covers.
