He could be good there. One of the few places he would be honestly. He'd be good in Jacksonville too though. I'm torn between wanting to trade up for Rosen or just trading up less (or not at all) for Lamar/Mayfield.

The catch rules are so stupid, this should count.

 

He dropped it.

 

He’s holding it/has possession with a knee and elbow down, seems like the ground causing a fumble. Also, his eye is getting gouged.

 

I agree that the catch rules are silly, but that was definitely not a catch

 

Using still images to prove something that's a continuous act like this is silly imo (I also have no idea what happened in this case as I wasn't watching and have not seen replays)

They actually amended the catch rules a few years back specifically because it was unclear why Calvin Johnsons "catch" wasnt a catch.

Doctson clearly had the ball going down, but, you have to maintain possession all the way through. The ball can move, but you cant drop it...and he clearly dropped it.

For example, had the ball shuffled around in his arm as he slides out of bounds, but never drops it, it'd have been a TD. Since he has clear possession at one point.

Gotcha. Does that apply for catches between the end zones too?

 

Yes. On the field of play, that can also be impacted by a "football move"...meaning a player cutting upfield, taking steps, etc as the line of demarcation between catch and when he becomes a runner. Obviously in the end zone, very few players make a cut or take a bunch of steps after their catch.

The new rules, best i can tell, make it far easier on refs in replay. And when a ball comes out, its easier to call incomplete. But they are definitely still far from perfect
