What a fucked episode, glad to get some real solid character development for Beth.

 

Loved the episode. Middleditch is probably the MVP guest star of the season assuming there isn't anyone crazy good in next week's finale. He was hilarious and completely crazy in the best way possible.

And yeah, it was great to get some character development for Beth in this one. Sort of confirmed a lot of long-held fan beliefs about her character and her similarities to Rick. Really well done. This show just excels at using the most insane, messed up situations to tell engaging stories and develop its characters. So good.

 

Do you think they will keep the Beth-clone reveal a mystery and never reveal her decision?

 

Yes. Because Roiland and Harmon actually understand good storytelling haha

yep, 9 straight stunners in a row. since this season is clearly going to close strongly, i have no issue calling this one of the best and most consistent seasons of television i've seen in some time.

they just deeply understand great storytelling. bullet points:

- how to establish the right sets of confidences/dependencies to make these deeply flawed characters charismatic, sympathetic and 'fixable'
- how to fuck with those two things so as to create genuine and captivating conflict
- how to immediately create mutual interests/dislikes/rivalries with supporting characters so a b-plot immediately grabs the viewer
- how to naturally use backdrops as catalysts to life lessons for the main characters
- how to make secondary/tertiary scenes important (no other show even bothers to establish backstory between one-off characters, but here those characters feel so lived-in. to watch a scene with those one-off characters and get a feeling that there's a history between them? or they have inside jokes, just some sort of depth; man it is so satisfying.)
- how to pace a show which must move quickly but can only avoid its endgame for so long before a sense of diminishing returns kicks in.

I don't know man, it's a fucking masterful show that will surely and deservedly have a class taught about it someday. to circle back to the one-scene characters things, what i mean on a larger scale, they just trust us as audience members to follow what's happening and what they're saying on every level without spoon-feeding it. we're rewarded for being intelligent viewers.

Definitely a clone. They worked too hard to show how Beth is like Rick for her not to have left.

I'm so sad about it. Here's hoping season 4 won't take as long

 

Honestly, if it takes that long to get the quality we got.... I don't want anything rushed.

 

I've been trying to decide if Rick offered her the clone out of love, or some other motive like now he has more time for Morty shenanigans because the clone won't give a shit how long Morty's gone. Or he's just enabling her behavior, like he did with the drinking at the end of Pickle Rick. I also wonder how long it will take Summer and Morty to figure out she's a clone, and what their reactions will be.

 

I deal with 3 year waits for Venture Bros, I can wait for Rick and Morty if I have to.

 

You all may have already guessed this, but my sole complaint with this season has been the lack of PhoenixPerson. I mean don't get me wrong, fuck Tammy, but come on now.

 

PhoenixPerson is definitely showing up in the finale

Oh I totally agree, I don't want it rushed at all and want the best we can get :P. I would just be stoked if they could some how pull it off sooner with less disagreements, but i definitely want whatever they feel will make them and us happy with the work they've done.

Absolute tragedy how little Mr PBH we've had this season. If I don't hear "Ooh Wee" in the finale I'll be gutted/

 

It took me 9 whole hours to realize you weren't actually talking about Mr Peanutbutter.

 

Don't get me wrong, I've loved this season, but am I the only one who doesn't find it the "best" season the show has done? It has some of the show's best moments, for sure, but I feel like it isn't as consistent as the other seasons.

 

I'd say its as good as two if not better, both are stronger than one.

 

IMO, the show is different this season. Its more narrative and character driven than previous ones, therefore, it doesn't have as many one-liners. The humor is more so in the narrative, which makes it tough to compare to previous seasons.
