  1. They've probably been talking for like 2 days in a row now.

I wonder if the 3 of them are talking because they're homies or if it's strictly business/legal shit they're having to talk about.

Travis picks his phone up and just sets it on his counter..comes back 3 hours later and toms somewhere between alien embryos and anal probes.

I think artistic ambition is a good thing and I think it's admirable to want to push against the established constraints of a sound you're associated with. Untitled is my favorite album and Tom was clearly a driving force behind that. I think it's really cool if Tom wants to make movies and write books. I even thought the Love film was interesting and the Poet Anderson cartoon was maybe close to decent. But the music he's making doesn't really reflect anything wild or different or interesting. I get that he clearly has a specific vision, but without the push and pull of truly collaborating I just don't think he'll ever make anything musically that does what he actually says he wants it to do (speaking strictly musically, I think it's cool that he's partnering with writers and directors for when he makes books and movies). I like some Angels & Airwaves songs, but at this point in their discography they've shown less growth or challenging of their established sound through WDNTW-the Dream Walker than blink showed from Cheshire-untitled.

At a certain point Tom "letting them do their own thing" is nullified by the continued posts and comments directed at blink.

There was a time I cared about his feelings towards it all. That passed about 2 weeks after the re-break up.

There isn't nearly enough talk in here about how California has fast punk songs and Blink songs that sound like them circa 1999.

    YESSSSSSSSSS B-)B-)B-)

There is so much indirect shade here. From alluding to the fact that they can't write their own music and had to bring in Feldman to do it, as if Matt isn't a talented writer? Then pretty much saying they aren't as "forward thinking" as he is.

I just want Tom to let blink be blink. Maybe in a few years when the dust has settled and everyone isn't in the spotlight something could happen. For the time being though I want Mark, Travis, and Matt to be the blink the fans want/need. I think that's what's most important.

I am super stoked to hear this. I like how Fieldmann kept them focused on what a blink-182 record should be!

  12. The fact of the matter is this:
Tom doesn't want to write punk rock songs anymore, and Mark and Travis do. Tom feels like he's matured as a creative person and he associate punk rock with his younger years so that's why he feels like it's a step backwards writing that kind of music again. It's that simple. He just doesn't know how to say that (or anything at all) without sounding offensive.

    Yes!!

Basically Tom would never sit and write a pop punk album with them even if they had a producer he respects because he doesn't really like that sort of music anymore.

I honestly think the only way I'd like to see Tom back in Blink is for the random reunion tours every 5 years or so. I really don't want him recording new Blink music, and I don't want him stalling everything up.

There's a vast, vast, vast disparity in talent between the two, but I see some parallels between Tom and Kanye West. Kanye has a billion different artistic venues outside of music, most notably fashion but also film and some other stuff. Kanye has a very focused vision and is passionate about bringing it to life and can sound like an asshole a lot of the time. But whereas Tom creates (particularly musically) so insularly, Kanye brings in a billion different artists and producers for when he makes an album to foster a creative atmosphere and let collaboration push him higher. He reinvents himself every time he puts something out and picking out talented people who are on the cutting edge is a way he challenges himself. If Tom was really a forward thinking artist, he'd be doing the same thing. He'd be open to outside perspectives that can push him and bring in new ideas he just isn't capable of pushing towards himself.

And with that, I've had more Tom DeLonge than I want in my headspace for the day. Even drawing a comparison between him and Kanye gives Tom too much credit.

In other news, I'm still holding out on buying a pre-order package just to get a pre-sale code. I really hope the code is generic. Spending $20 on a single cd just to get a pre-sale code is going to kill me.

The funny thing is that Tom's music is DESPERATELY crying out for a producer. I get being protective over your stuff but his delusions of grandeur are ridiculous. What is he doing that he thinks is so innovative or forward thinking?

It's funny I was going to make a similar comparison haha. Kanye is a weird dude who genuinely makes weird new music. Like Yeezus had a lot of strange shit going on. Tom is just making undercooked pop rock music that isn't instantly amazing just because he's doing it "on his own" so to speak.

I completely understand it being weird as hell watching "his" band carry on without him though.

I took zero pleasure delivering the news that I did. I wasn't trying to prove a point, or convince people of a truth that I am not even sure of. HOWEVER, this dude is clearly on one, and like I said, get ready for a messy record cycle/few years. Hoping for the best obviously. #skibaforlife
