    "I'll chew on a dog!"

That statement already has me respecting the movie. Or at the very least, the decisions behind it.

Seeing it tomorrow night so that may change.

Makes me laugh that this got an "F" Cinemascore, evidently the marketing led to people thinking this would be a straightforward horror film.

I mean, the release strategy of this was ridiculous. There's absolutely no reason this should've been a wide release, and any producer with the slightest bit of common sense should have seen that.

The backlash to this film is absurd.

I truly can't wrap my head around it, the media is crucifying this like it's a Lars Von Trier film

Also, I was literally the only person in the room for my showing. I love when that happens although I was looking forward to seeing peoples reactions on the way out.

People saying they hate a movie doesn't = backlash. It's a very divisive film.

Poor choice of words on my part.

The level to which people are hating this is absurd (e.g. "F" on CinemaScore) -- and I'm not saying everyone has to like it or should like it. But I also think it deserves credit for a lot of things and feel like it's important for a few more reasons than just the content or what it said.

There is definitely a very vocal and loud reaction to this on the negative side, IMO. An "F", so to speak, or saying it's "the worst movie ever" is kind of preposterous. Hate the heavy-handed message? Fine. Hate Jennifer Lawrence's performance? Fine. The script or anything else? Totally okay too.

Still think it's important to support original ideas and studio risks for the sake of film itself and better content (e.g. less Minions and sequels). Also, some of the technical aspects deserve a lot of recognition and praise and that alone is enough to curb the level of some of these reactions.

Hopefully more people turn out for The Shape of Water, especially with the positive reviews.

The Wrestler and Requiem are both great films though!

The Wrestler is easily his best film, IMO. I would love to see him explore all of these themes he's been trying to touch on lately with a more stripped down and human/personal touch like that film. Think he gets a bit too ambitious at times and it jumbles things up.

I could see that. The Wrestler (even with its acclaim) was severely underrated. Mickey should also have an Oscar for that performance.

I hope movies continue to take big risks. I generally gravitate to very weird, over the top and bizarre shit. While I think this was an enormous miss, I hope bigger directors/studios keep taking big swings. Hopefully in a less heavy handed fashion.

Seeing people turning against Darren Aronofsky feels great, but Paramount pretending to be the last bastion of adventurous cinema is a bit much to take. Transformers 5, Baywatch, Ghost in the Shell are all from the last few months.

I don't think Requiem holds up but I honestly forgot he did The Wrestler, thoroughly loved it the couple times I've seen it

@Morrissey I generally like your malice towards mainstream cinema but I don't think this one is really deserving of it. In no way do I think you'll like it (I know you will hate it) but this is an adventurous excursion and while an easy target I don't think it's a good one.

I was practically raised on a pew and I didn't realize the parallels, I get them now but it stands up without knowing that on an initial viewing. Im pretty annoyed with the condescension directed at those of us that didn't know what he was getting at our first time around haha

A lot of times bad directors ironically get punished for their less odious work. Jason Reitman made three terrible films that received a ton of praise, and then people started to turn against him for Young Adult, which was bad but better than his other work. The same goes for David O. Russell and Joy, which was much better than his other films but was deeply criticized by the same people who loved his other films.

Darren Aronofsky is responsible for The Fountain and Black Swan and Requiem for a Dream, so seeing him fail after people lavished him with undeserved praise is refreshing. The Wrestler is borderline good, even if it is too broad and beats you over the head with symbolism.

Anyone who gets upset at a movie because they were misled by the marketing is a doofus

What are your problems with Requiem?

    It was ok.

A little hamfisted at places and they really beat you over the head with the biblical themes.

To put that "F" Cinemascore rating in perspective this film is one of only 19 to get that score with abominations like Alone in the Dark and Disaster Movie getting the same rating.

Bug, The Box, and Silent House all got F's? To me, Cinemascore is the least relevant 'rating' out there.
