Fall Out Boy Band • Page 52

Discussion in 'Music Forum' started by Melody Bot, Jan 9, 2016.

  1. I've never understood how a Fall Out Boy fan could hear Coffee's For Closers and think "yeah, this is bad." In so many ways, that particular song is the logical endpoint of the sound they started working toward on Cork Tree.

Folie is far and away my favorite album of theirs. The anthemic moments are huge in a way that I don't think they've quite reached since the hiatus--songs like Centuries and Champion feel like they're working hard to sound so big, but Folie did that sound so effortlessly. "Theatrical" was a pretty big buzzword during that era of the scene, and I think Folie hit that theatrical-emo-pop nail on the head harder than any of FOB's contemporaries did. I get why it bombed for them, but man, what I'd give to see some of those songs (Disloyal Order, Coffee's For Closers, Headfirst Slide, 20 Dollar Nosebleed) given a second chance among the people who wrote the album off after I Don't Care and Suitehearts.

    Things have changed.

Coffee is a top 5 song of theirs.

All this FOB talk has me bummed now that they still don't have a big Chicago show planned (there's just one on Saturday at the HOB, which will be really cool for those going). I'm currently dreaming about a secret Riot Fest set.

Hopefully they announce something soon, although at this point I guess it wouldn't be until January.

I'm really hoping they move away from the whole Centuries, Immortals, Champions vibe/theme.. it's become a bit of a gag at this point. I even had a friend over the other night , who doesn't really listen to pop/rock at all, and Sleeping With Sirens "Legends" came on my playlist and halfway through he said "Chilllll fall out boy" :crylaugh:

"They say the captain goes down with his ship, so when the world ends, will God go down with it?"

How could you not love an album with that line. (idk if I actually like the line or patrick's delivery or both, but it gets me every time).

Listened to Folie last night because of all of this discussion and it is still a great record. I never gave it much attention when it first came out, but damn it holds up.

Chiming in to agree that Folie is hands-down their best album.

How could one line make an entire album? I don't think I have ever heard one song and said, "this album is good." It could make the song good, but the entire album? I don't buy it.

I do like that line and that song. One of the best on the album. But that doesn't make the album instantly good.

When the singing kicks in on Thriller "Last summer we took threes across the board..." screams nostalgia to me everytime and just hits me hard with the chills...even just talking about it.

Yeah Thriller makes me feel things man. Whole album does it, but that's such a perfect opener.

    Though Disloyal order is better...

Was just talking to someone today about how there's a small FOB show here this weekend and there's like, minimal hype to it.

Well I think it's definitely less impactful because it's just a random show now, whereas it was the album release show before. Also it's not like you'd hear advertisements or anything for it since it's sold out. I'm sure the people going are very excited.

Song is out. That chorus is huge and fits well enough with current pop radio to be a hit.

I'm here for it. Two out of the three new songs are bangers. That's exciting.

This songs rules. Way more lyrically resonate for me than the other two.
