I'll apologize for using dude, I'm sorry, it was said in haste without thought and I take responsibility for that.

But I'll not apologize for any other critiques and take son your posts which have been a mess of attacks and fallacy.

You defend the band's lyrics in one of your early posts and your argument has revolved entirely around the past. This whole thread has been about critiquing this band as well as past instances from this scene that have allowed this kind of thing to be accepted that are only now being brought up by a larger number of people. What is your goal besides attempting to discredit the calling out of this problematic behavior?

 

I had that. Magazines brought it up, tv discussed it. It was brought up in nu-metal and hip hop, so I could easily apply it to what I was into instead of just pretending what I like was somehow above mainstream or urban music. This was when the bands first broke. The magazines i read absolutely criticized the lyrical content and I just chose to not ignore it.

Anyways, this is nuanced in a very simplistic way; So I'm just going to stop it.
Good on everyone who wants to become a better person. No but, no but.... buut if you can keep your opinons on the bands musical output, style, or genre of music out of it and apply everything equally to artists YOU like, I'd implore you to.

Well, you said you were leaving and changing your password. So I'm not sure how jones could have cleared it up. But now that you are sticking around apparently, it looks like jones has. And hopefully we can move on.

 

There's like a weird superiority thing in this post that confuses me. I think that's one of the reasons you're getting some much pushback in this thread (as well as your initial attack on Jason, which seemed very personal and obfuscated your point).

Oh my fucking god you are being so incredibly and needlessly obtuse! I honestly can't even believe it! If you took the time to read even half of the thread before posting - and it is so obvious that you didn't - you would see countless people talking about those bands, like Brand New and Say Anything, who have been problematic in the past. We have all owned up to it, all acknowledged it, and all recognized that it is harmful. We didn't back then, probably because most of this didn't know any better, but we're doing it it now. That is the ONLY thing that matters. At this point I just have to assume that you're trolling because your posts are too dense and straight up factually incorrect to be taken seriously.

That's true, you're 100% accurate. There is totally a weird supeority to what I type here. I agree.
I do have several bones to pick with Jason and have for the last 10+ years. Now, don't get me wrong, _I don't really care_; But sometimes I just have to "type it off", especially since it's now going into this territory.

(However, since i'm mentioning Jason again, please know that I think he can post/not post about anything ever without any explanation, that's not any issue I've ever had with him, ever).

Yes, I realize that. What I originally wrote was about the main post and some of jason's posts. I understand that and if you do that, awesome, good on you. I understand that, 100%. I can see how reading through all my comments like that would confuse things from the main point. All I want is for style, sound and era to not be a detriment to the artist. Treat them equally. Saying "song sucks though" is something Jason has done several times now in these cases and it just _does not help_. I'm sorry and thank you.

I think we've all become a bit over sensitive. Yes the lyrics suck, and it's your site so you have the power to put/promote whatever you wish. I wouldn't promote these fools either...but it's a song and saying they are "disgusting" is a stretch. Songs are over dramatized and the point, well if there was one, is that the dude is pissed and vengeful. As a teenager I felt the same shit.

I even knew that when i typed it, my mind told me to change it, but i went "no, they can't act like that in a serious thread like this, right?". I re-wrote it once, but maybe i should've just removed it altogether :(.

All I'm saying is that you've pegged me wrong, I can't dig myself out of this grave since you do not wish to listen, so bye. I've said multiple times that I do not defend the band in any way. It is remarkable how many people feel the need to jump in and make a single post indicating that they are both ok with misogyny and a little racist.

 

This talk happened 10 years ago too. I remember when Max released "Property" and we were all like... dude, this is messed up.
