She is interesting, and seems like a genuinely great person. Everything she's been about post-Scientology has been really cool.

Her Scientology show is so good. I love her. Fighting the good fight taking on that fraud of a religion. Spoiler alert it's a money grabbing cruel cult.

Sheeeesh you want me to pit my favorite Brand New songs against each other and then rank my top 10 movies of all time? This is one hell of a relationship that idk I can provide for.

I'm really starting to hear the record in 3 acts, easily divided into 4 tracks a piece.

Act 1 - lit me up- could never be heaven
3 out of these 4 songs are slow and none of them really get heavy at all. Can't get it out is the outlier here but still features a lot of acoustic guitar and a major key. This act introduces a lot of the themes of the record that will later return really setting up the record.

Act 2. Same logic- in the water
This is the heavy section of the record. While all of the songs are dynamic, they all feature heavier rock elements to the record. 3 out of 4 of these songs has epic solos and the guitars on same logic are punched up a ton for the chorus.

    Act 3- desert- batter up-
The more experimental section of the record. Desert and no control seem to be related lyrically, I really like to see no control as the response to the son from desert. 451 is just a Nashville tinged blues rock song, pretty much unlike anything they've done before, and batter up concludes the entire record beautifully.

Idk just something I was thinking about last time I listened.

While we're on the top of Science Fiction I've actually never seen Close Encounters. The funny thing is I'm obsessed with UFO documentaries/theories etc. Might go see it in theater for my first time this weekend!

I actually thought about that, like we just got a 3 act record with the Manchester lp. But that feels more like a story and a concept fully thought out. I'm thinking of this more on musical tone, while there are lyrical elements that connect it. Also not saying it was done purposefully, but interesting that the 4 heaviest songs line up that way. And the first act really feels like a warmup, an introduction to this new sound.. and then the final act is like let's just combine everything we did in the first two acts and go for more of an experimental approach that really pushes our sound. I love it and I think it was executed really well. I'd be interested if any of this went into deciding the track listing, the opener and closer feel really deliberate.

Also let's say if desert and no control are related

Desert- represents maybe the more traditional gospel bluesy tone of the south

No control- the rock of the youth, the kid being made feel that they are rebelling for having no control over who they are as a person. Being made feel worthless by the character in the first song. This may be a stretch but the difference in tone between these songs is night and day and could
Represent the characters that are telling the story.

Damn, just watched the trailers for Little Children and Take Shelter after seeing the love for them in here. Honestly never heard of these films before today, but they are now at the top of my "to watch" list.

Excited for my first road trip with Science Fiction. If I drive slow enough, I should be able to get 2 whole plays in.
