I'm just glad they changed my least favorite part of that song: "it had me dying for a gram" changed to "I guess I lost my steady hand" or something like that.

I've only listened to the original Settle the Scar like once and ever since I found out it was going to be on the album I avoided listening to it so I wouldn't judge it against the original.

 

I prefer the new version.

 

I wasn't super psyched about the Goodness after the first half of the pre-release cycle because after the live steam-era, the cycle felt dragged and I lost interest. However, since the album was leaked the way it was and because I don't want to hear it under those conditions, it caused me to become more excited for the record. "Soft Animal" didn't hit me at first, but I revisited it today and it was amazing. Same with "Piano Player", in which it was a good song to me, but after making the drawing based off of it and listen to it before and after the end result of the sketch, it really started to hold importance with me.

I listened to both of their previous records on my way home from college and INGO still holds up while Home remains cathartic as ever. The transition into "Life In Drag" still gave me goosebumps that lasted throughout the entire song. The long yell that Christian gives right before the instrumental section in "Dendron" (the last line on the back and forth guest vocal part) made me stop what I was doing when I heard it again. It's a powerful record that still proves itself to be my #5 album ever.

This band is incredible. I'm ready for Goodness. Today is the one month mark. We're almost there.

 

"You grip on my forearm, insert the wrong name" first line of Opening Mail For My Grandmother is so bloody beautiful. Such good imagery!

Nah, I listened to the clips but then I was sent the album to review.

Also. Reviewing this album is one of the hardest things I have ever had to do. It's hard to stay objective when something is so emotionally important to you. I feel like I won't be ready to put the review up until I am well and truly ready.

 

What are you reviewing it for?

 

A website I write for. Fully wasn't expecting the record for another few weeks yet. Got so lucky.

 

Trying to stay objective is impossible. Write from the heart.

@Jason Tate thought I would respond here since that blink thread is already bust enough haha. Basically I justified it by saying okay, I'll listen to the songs individually at different times out of order. So yes I've heard every song but I didn't fully experience the album..

I'm extremely excited for it and can't wait to listen to it straight through.. Probably should have left it alone but I couldn't help myself.. Ha

 

theres quite a few little details in Home like that which make is such a rich album.

 

At first I was gonna be like, "Uhm, of course the content of the song relates to depression...not some crazy realization:

Then I kicked myself for not realizing it.

 

Can you explain a few others haha

 

The maternal/paternal dichotomy in "Intro" and "Dendron"

the past reference to "Nite Ratz" in "Life In Drag"

Christian had said that the narrator of the album is inside the house on the album cover and the songs are the narrators past memories and theres a few references to that fact (the first lines referring to opening the curtains of a windows and seeing birds outside, the sound of a door closing at the end of "Dendron")

the acoustic guitar at the end of "Dendron" mimics the melody of "Intro"

the play on words of "Your Deep Rest" to "Youre depressed"

Dendron is greek for tree and "Your Deep Rest" has an extensive tree metaphor

"Discomfort Revisited" is a sort of sequel song to "Southern Discomfort" which is a song from the bands very first EP when they were The Hotel Year

The clip at the end of "Among The Wildflowers" is also quite pertinent to the albums overall story.

 

I was never really sure what that clip meant or what its significance was.
