It's crazy that I enjoy every single moment on this record. Can't wait for the vinyl.

Lyrics started posting with the major redesign, whenever that was. I'm not sure they post from genius though, a lot of times the Apple Music lyrics are laughably bad, almost like closed captioning bad.

Yes...but a thing isn't beautiful because it lasts

No way they don't play 4-5 songs from SF on their next tour. Jesse must be at least a little excited to play material that reflects his current disposition, instead of head space from a decade ago. If they tour the whole album that'd be cool too, leaving us with no song unplayed in a live setting seems like another loose end/closure they might think about.

Is there a place we can keep all of these think pieces so they are all in one place haha, maybe throw them all on the first post?

everyone who thinks Vins part in Same Logic is weird... have you ever listened to his little brothers band Robbers? he does some really weird vocal things.

also, just reading that NPR piece right now... for some reason i find it funny they keep referring to "emo" and calling brand new an emo band. i dont know. its just funny. i just feel like since at least 2006 theyre just a rock band.

    edit: didnt love that article.

I agree. I never really thought of this band as an emo band. I was late to the party and started listening in 2003. Deja feels like a rock album to me. TDAG cemented the feeling for me

Yea I mean, the band def was no longer emo after deja but they sort of created that alt rock/emo tinged subgenre that we throw bands like thrice, Manchester, all get out into.

They really paved the way for indie rock, imo.

They definitely opened some minds. I think seeing them move to a newer sound made it easier for younger bands and their contemporaries to make the jump. I think they should get credit for bands like Manchester for sure. I never really read an interview with brand new. I'm always interested in bands when they make a shift in sound. I think about title fight and how people were so upset with something so natural, yet brand new did something similar and it was received well. Fans pre deja, what was that experience like for you? Was it instant love or did a catchy guitar part seep into your mind, calling you back? (Wow this is my longest post on here!)

When I first heard deja I couldn't even believe it, didn't even sound like the same band to me. The single before the album was guernica I believe and then it leaked shortly after so the only song I heard for the first time going in was guernica, which doesn't sound totally different. At that point I was already ready for a tone shift with devil and god, also I was into other heavier music at the time so it felt really natural to me.

I got the pre order for the limited vinyl but I like the album so much that I'm still looking to get the indie exclusive eventually.

Never really liked Brothers because of the vocals. I remember the music being fine tho.

I've never had problems sleeping to TDAG myself but I can see why one would. I someone who can sleep through most things, however.

    I've been bookmarking
Hyperview was only okay imo. A good recent example that was succesful with a drastic sound change is Hundredth with RARE
