I mean those guys are only 40. They're going to get day jobs now? Why not make a full career out of it? People are going to buy anything they put out.

I used to think that album closers race was a close one, but now I think Batter Up takes it by far. This is the PERFECT closer. Probably one of my favorite album closers ever from any artist.

They already announced last year that they are retiring in 2018. Not sure where you have been but all signs point to them being done at the end of 2018. 40 is a good age to retire from music too, some artists over stay their welcome. I don't think Brand New would be one of those artists but if they want to be done then we need to respect them for that decision. Touring/being in a band can be more tolling on a person than we think. Someone also mentioned Jesse's mental health in this thread this weekend and while I think he seems fine, you can never be too sure of that. And sometimes the best thing for someone's metal health is to stop touring like Eminem did.

Probably pretty simple as just not wanting to. I doubt they care about how much money they make. I highly doubt they'll all quit writing songs, we just likely wont hear most of them and it wont be Brand New.

I don't need to click on a Kerr an article to know they didn't steal for someone. Brand reputation goes a long way.

I would love to hear a full record co-written and performed by KD and JL. Some of my favorite KD songs are ones that feature JL. (Another Bag of Bones, Brothers Blood)

The "so everyone will wait" before the guitar solo of in the water hits so hard.. all of those entitled fans putting pressure on him to put out a record that wasn't ready.

It's hard to judge new albums vs. old ones which you grew up listening to, and have listened to for years. For me, Deja is that album that I would have trouble ever ranking another album above. But, Science Fiction does have the best musicianship and lyrics that I've heard from Brand New, and could very well be their best album. It's going to be very fun to listen to this album and become more connected to it in the future.

have given it a good 5-6 listens since Thursday night and this is a top 3 for me. Depending on my mood it could honestly probably fluctuate anywhere in my top 3 (deja, devil, scifi).

Apparently the whole record was sitting on some SoundCloud page for the last 17 days ha, I wonder if there were clues to find it and we just were terrible.

Edit. Okay it's not SoundCloud it's some site called arxius. I'd post it but it has the whole record on there, you can find it on Reddit.

it could have been a private page that just recently went public?

Oh... that's really interesting! Which kind of also feeds into something I was wondering: Why mail the CD out for delivery on the same day that the whole world could buy it digitally? While cool, the CD that was mailed is (arguably) a much worse way to listen to the album, as it only consists of one track!

I assumed they mailed them out and were waiting for people to get them and spread the viral hype before putting it up for sale.

Has anyone checked to see if there's something hidden in the pre-gap on that CD? (i.e. Put the disc in a CD player and hold down the rewind button to see if the disc rewinds into "negative" time behind track 1). They did this on the Devil & God CD.

now that i think about it, this feels the first brand new album where they've clearly allowed other people to directly influence them. i've honestly never been the type, when listening to Deja - Daisy, to really hear anything other than just Brand New, lol.
