we've seen the shadow of the axe before Supporter

I definitely heard some Bon Jovi vibes in parts of "Waste".

It's like the hookyness of Deja mixed with the experimental rabbit hole of Daisy

  5. Not sure if anyone brought this up yet, but the artwork is using the same picture as the album titled "Risk it All" by the artist Slow Dance.

    Could this be intentional?

Did you get tickets? I thought they went on sale at 10am

I couldn't afford tickets today so I'm hoping to find one later. I'll be happy to join you since none of my friends really listen to Brand New!

I managed to get presale tickets yesterday through Live Nation with a code I skimmed over on twitter. I couldn't believe it worked.

It's been brought up. Doubt it was intentional.

Wrecked 'em? Damn near killed 'em!

If this is indeed their last album, I'm okay with it. This was everything I could've asked for from the band. What a way to go out. The production, the lyrics, the melodies/harmonies, all top notch. Also, obviously Vin's guitar work is at it's very best, but Garrett's basslines got better too. His parts in "Lit Me Up" are hypnotic. I was banking on The Menzingers taking AOTY, but nope. Brand New swooped in and stole that one.

I still haven't had time to sit down with this and follow along with the lyrics. Very much looking forward to doing that this weekend.

I very much doubt this is the last Brand New album we will get. I agree, its great, but I think that all that talk about being done was just talk.

So what is the word with those limited pre orders? Anyone know how this will be different than the ones that are now on the website?

  17. So I've listened to this album about 5 times now and each time I find it harder to get through all the way... haha. *shrug*

We reach for the longest shadow

The chorus to In the Water... I don't really know how to describe it, but it's one of my favorite musical moments of the year.

I haven't heard anything about the US press. But the exclusive Australian press is on white vinyl.

same logic / teeth keeps making me think of Hanya Yanagihara's book "a little life"

    These lyrics especially:

So you decide to make incisions at your home while you’re alone, all alone
But you’re no tailor, you’re no surgeon, none of your cuts go very straight

Every new layer you uncover reveals something else you hate
And then you cracked your head, and broke some bones
And when you glued them back together you found out you did it wrong...

o how’s it feel to walk around, like you’re some sort of freak
You’re just an actor, ain’t no doctor
Ashamed of what you used to be
And you’ve got your kind of brand new face on, where all the skin’s pulled thin and taut
And every kid you see starts crying so you stop going out for walks

Well I guess nothing can be perfect, so here’s a comforting thought
At the bottom of the ocean fish won’t judge you by your faults

Anyone read this book? the descriptions of self harm, and the resultant scarring stuck with me for ages after.

I just love how "Can't Get It Out" messes with the listener. That feedback like loud guitars are about to come in and then the strum on muted electric guitar strings, but then it goes directly into soft guitars / bass lines. Like who even thinks to do that.
