It's funny to me that the last line of the album that we've all been wanting for so long is "that's what we were waiting for"

Okay, so maybe those comments about it being better than TDAG weren’t totally unfounded. It’d take like 100 more listens for me to say that, but still ... this is phenomenal halfway through.

  4. Finally listening. Can't believe this is real

im shocked at how many callbacks there are to the other albums. thats not really something theyve ever done but its really cool to hear.

    i love this tbh

No Control is just kind of boring compared to the rest of the album. I like it but it never really "takes off" or takes you anywhere like the rest of the songs on the album.

My absolute favorite Brand New song of all time is Jude Law and the Semester Abroad.

Other favorites from YFW: Sudden Death in Carolina, Mix Tape, Failure by Design, Last Chance to Lose Your Keys, Secondary, and Magazines.

I've caught Modest Mouse, Manchester Orchestra, and self references. Anything else I missed?

    The Feeling and the Sound

I love it so much but it makes the record feel so final, like the end of the career.

time to go to bed, it's been a crazy day i never could have seen coming. i couldn't have been happier spending most of it here, freaking out over what may be the last brand new record on a site that's meant a lot to me, in this and previous incarnations, for probably close to half my 28 years. thanks guys, good night!

I think my favourite off YFW is Jude Law too. You described a blending of YFW with the darker tones they've grown to use and No Control sounds the closest to that sort of thing to me. Maybe if it weren't mid-tempo it would seem to have more of that YFW punch.

Which are your favourites from Science Fiction right now?

Well this album IS better than TDAG. I'm on listen 9 and not even afraid to already say that

  17. The last time I was listening to a brand new Brand New album it was the beginning of my senior year of high school. Now it's the beginning of my senior year of college (I fucked up a lot in the interim). Life is weird.

Chorus of "Can't Get It Out" made me grin like an idiot. They're back.

I wasn't talking about the whole album, just the little punkier instrumental at the end of No Control that tricks you into thinking it's a new song but goes nowhere. But I could see No Control being a Pop Punk song if recorded slightly different. Or Can't Get It Out is kind of pop punky in the choruses.

My top 4 on Science Fiction in no order are: Could Never Be Heaven, Desert, 451, and Batter Up. I think after that would be Same Logic/Teeth and Out of Mana.
