I like Jimmy Eat World, Bleed American was a great album and I really got into their earlier stuff after that, Digits is great, maybe my favorite

What is this scene in context?

 

I don't tend to think about JEW much but when I'm listening to them it's always a great experience and I think I'd put them somewhere in my top ten rock bands.

 

Emo/pop-punk/ap.net bands. Whatever.

 

I wouldn't put CTL in either of the first two by any stretch. The last one for sure though haha

 

Brand New is nothing to get so worked up about.

They're an okay to decent band that I end up mostly disliking just because of the ridiculousness surrounding them. I'll definitely listen to the album though

Interesting... so do things like the roll out of their albums / lack of media interviews / craziness of the fan base influence your feelings on the music itself? If so, do you feel you would like their music more if you didn't know the "behind the scenes" of the band?

 

i felt that exact same way for a long time but devil is really really good and the other two surrounding it are solid and the new one is excellent and i would recommend it to even people that aren't a fan of the band? maybe the best SOUNDING record i've heard this year

 

I only really care for TDAG. Everything else ain't my thing. The hype around them is absurd. I say that as I'm listening to the new album with my finger on the refresh key and the new album thread open on another tab

 

TDAG and the demos are incredible, the other three records are fine

The fan base, yes. I wish I could just experience the band like I would any other, but I almost want to hate this new album because of the die hard fans - not just because of today, but the way they've been for years (I haven't heard the album yet and probably won't hate it - just speaking in terms of how the reactions color my perception of the band). I do really like Devil, but every time there's new buzz about the band I get the strong urge to distance myself from them. I think the quality of their music isn't even close to warranting the level of hype they receive, and while obviously tastes differ - there are plenty of bands this site loves that I'm indifferent to, for sure - I have always thought the reaction to everything they do is extremely excessive.

 

Jesse Lacey could shit in a shoe and people would buy the shit out of it if you know what I mean
