I'll keep my objectively correct opinions about Bon Iver to myself from now on.

first BI album is great, second is amazing, third is boring

anyway... this is growing on me, it's got some p cool moments - some great guitar playing, but mainly good songwriting which is the basis of all good rock music, and what a lot of bands lack - like, there's a bunch of bands out there that have an interesting sound but lack the writing skills - this guy seems to know what he is doing

 

I'll meet you in the "Unpopular Music Opinions" thread! Although I think I already expressed these thoughts in there and got similarly shot down.

 

I like BI but it's kind of refreshing to read people dissing them TBH

 

I have his first two records, Although they are mostly background music for me.

 

This is an interesting take.

 

I hate when you play anything remotely quiet sounding and people always say, oh yea it's sort of like bon iver.

 

I think it was probably the ambiance and layering more than it being quiet

Bc their early tours were often with brand new.. i would classify their first two albums as emo tinged alt rock

 

Short answer is one of their first big tours was w brand new, Kevin Devine and glassjaw and association with the first two has been enduring

I think they are embracing where they fit in with the scene by bringing out tigers jaw and foxing
