Eh I think this season might actually be my least favorite. For a final season..idk.. I'm not getting a real epic feeling.

  2. i stopped watching after S2 because i had a feeling it would only get more convoluted and nonsensical plotwise. is it worth going back ?

  3. Holy shit. Cosima episodes are the best/worst. Ugh.

the seasons picking up a bit but this season continues to be more of the same of the last 4 seasons. It's a show that wanted to do one more season but is kinda limping towards the finish. Like, I'm glad it's back, but they're not finishing super strong. Hopefully the final few episodes will make up for it.

Orphan black gripe #2: Killing characters off is REALLY hard to do in this show haha

  6. @domotime2 You're kind of right, this season hasn't yet reached Supernatural S5 or Fringe S5 levels of final-season-epic-feeling-ness yet. I do think it has been very strong so far, though, and that there is a sense of finality to it. It's certainly picked up the pace after S4 slowed things down and took its time a bit, so this season never feels like nothing's happening, and I don't feel like it's business as usual, either, because I feel like the stakes are higher.

  7. Well that was an eye-opening experience...

I love how each of the clones is getting an episode devoted mostly to them. It's a great way to give them all a proper send off, but not shoehorning it into the last episode. The only ones left are Helena (which may be this week's with Gracie's return) and Sarah who the whole show is about so she'll probably be the finale.

This will sound heartless but thank God. Finally finally the season took it up a notch. Someone major needed to die.

    Good episode

  12. Actually kind of annoyed right now. I have felt every death this season, and you're sitting there like this is the first big thing that's happened.

actually felt after that this big death didn't hit me as hard as i feel it should have. still not sure I really love how they've paced this season and how they seem to want to end it (which I'm still not even sure yet)

im not a fan. this season feels the most laziest for some reason. maybe i didnt notice it in other seasons but there's so many moments this season that make me squint my eyes like 'yeah?"

5 seasons and ART has been one note the whole time. I'm pretty sure he's worn the same outfit every episode.

I'm actually really enjoying this season because it's not so over the top and epic, but very character driven and focused. The thing I've always loved most about the show is the characters much more so than the plot and last night was a perfect showcase of them (literally). I do understand why it's not clicking as much with some, but it's exactly what I wanted.

  16. Yes. Seasons 4-5 feel more grounded and character-driven, whereas season 3 just felt like they kept trying to shock and escalate.

but you see...the character we're getting the most out of this season has been Rachel. I feel like that's the only character we got really in depth this season. Kosima's island adventure was silly (we learned her parents still think she's in college.. lmao what?), Sara's been told to "chill" all season, Helena's been eating in a convent, Felix was in switzerland for a few episodes (that they didnt feel like filming), and i dont think we got anything new out of Allison. I thought we'd get something a lot better than she comes back with purple hair. She had much better character development in earlier seasons.

I thought we were going to get some serious Kira stuff this season, and we sorta did? but in a way we sorta didn't.

i think this season isn't doing much of anything. It's not shocking, cause the reveals are odd and convoluted and sometimes dont make sense. The characters haven't really grown really at all. And the stakes have seemed similar to previous season or lessen.

Can someone answer me one question... where is the island? it doesn't seem like it's very far from "mainland"

  18. Yeah, but it's been a long time coming. I had a feeling she'd change sides sooner or later. I'm glad it's been handled so well and given the focus it deserved.
Delphine: I promised to protect you.
Cosima: And I promised to defy them... This is what we do, I push too hard and you do things without my consent. That's our relationship.
Delphine: Now we can end it, or we can just accept it as it is. ...That felt like accepted.

This is Cosima and Delphine defining and accepting how their relationship works. I don't think that's silly at all.

And by the way, I've found the dynamic between Westmorland, Duncan, and Coady to be fascinating. Even Mud and Ira have been interesting.

And she has been chill. Good. How many times has her impulsiveness just led to more problems? I'd say this inaction was a development.
With a belly that big (with babies that the Neos want to exploit, mind you), I'm surprised she's gotten as much action as she did this season. Heck yeah she's gonna hide out for once instead of going on her usual rampages. And anyway, don't you think the show's focused on Sarah and Helena enough, at the expense of not spending enough time on the other sestras and supporting characters?
Okay, yeah, but how gold was this?

Felix: It's taught me that we are all mysterious works of chance, of choice, of nature vs. nurture. So, to my galaxy of women, thank you for nurture.

Felix just gave voice to what this whole show is about. All the sestras share the same DNA, but they all turned out radically different from one another because of their different upbringings. Also, he highlights the feminist aspect of the show, that women are badass.

Allison: Can you take him home, please?
Felix: Yeah? What are you going to do?
Allison: Gonna make myself useful for once.

This is Allison finding her role in all this mess. Now she needs to find her role in her own life. The purple hair isn't the end of it. Didn't you see how hard she fought herself about trying to control Donnie this episode?

Kira: I want to know why I'm like this, and I don't want to go with you! I'm going with Rachel!

This is Kira showing agency instead of just being someone that needs to be protected. (Also, the "serious" stuff" had less to do with Kira herself and more to do with what the Neos wanted to do with her.)

Yes, the characters have grown, as I've just tried to point out.

Did you miss the part where the Neos wanted to HARVEST KIRA'S EGGS??? For once, the stakes extend further than affecting just the Leda clones, and here you say they've lessened? Are we watching the same show? This season has been so strong, so much more than just pure shock value, and you're just not getting it. More than annoying, it makes me genuinely sad.

  19. I have a feeling it will end strong but this season has been poorly paced. The island is not compelling, everything going on with Kira ended up being irrelevant and most of the plot has moved forward off-screen which is just horrible writing.

I don't know what to tell you...im not feeling what you're feeling on any of this. Some of my favorite shows interweve great character development with compelling plot and i think the show did that really well for the first few seasons but it fell apart for me on this one.

Nothing in which you wrote is resonating with me as anything as that interesting or ground breaking...or they're themes in which the show has alluded to or done in the past.

There's nothing to "get" with orphan black. It's a pretty straight forward show.

takes a lot to get two characters who nobody really cares about in a mid episode quick death scene to go well, especially when they definitely didn't pull off what should have been the emotional climax of the whole series
