If I was there I woulda picked the Killers only because Ive seen Blink 14 times live, 3 times on the California tour. Plus the new Killers songs are rad.

They're still on the live stream or at the actual festival? A lot of these sets being streamed aren't live. I know for certain the Tegan & Sara set was streamed an hour after they started.

Hmph. Even after seeing them last night I thought the show was good. You earthlings are so demanding sometimes. I am a battle hungry alien warrior and I still had fun.

I enjoyed the stream and was glad I got to see it. I thought SOOHM, Sober and Kings sounded really good.

Anyone expecting a set list different from what they had been playing were setting themselves up for being disappointed.

Right? It's freaking Lollpalooza, and their first time playing it. They had to play the setlist they've been playing. If you thought NOW was when they'd play a deep cut...well I just can't help your Train Of thought

From the Chicago tribune: : "The ongoing question is still whether it is Blink 182 without Tom DeLonge. Of the original three only Mark Hoppus is left. So what now? Well, there was a 2016 album, "California," and now a tour. It still seems remarkable that the remarkable, genre-defining "Dude Ranch" came out in 1997. This by-the-numbers set can make an eloquent argument that old punkers should just fade away -- except Riot Fest puts the lie to that notion. So why didn't Blink 182 have any life? Rhythms that used to snap and crackle with the interplay of Hoppus and DeLonge, are now just flat and lifeless, at times verging on metal. Hoppus even had his hair gelled up into something approaching a fauxhawk, something a dude in his 40s, even an old punker, should reconsider. Are kids loyal? So much so, it would seem, that they still come out to see memories rather than sharp, vibrant bands. It's grim when you need to seek love from a crowd by pointing out the hometown status of the newest member, Matt Skiba. "Cynical," the opener from the new album, also serves as a bit of commentary here. What should bands do when a key element leaves? Continue? Find a new direction with new members? Dunno. But they might want to reconsider what Blink 182 has chosen, which is to feel like a tribute band -- and not a very good one. The anthemic choruses are no longer catchy, the pop punk hooks gone. What's left? Not much. (KM)"

Every time I start to see why Kakarot loves this planet, someone like the writer of that article pops up and I want to resume the invasion of this planet by the Saiyan race immediately.

I'm not a particularly big fan of the new music but I won't hear a bad word against Mark's hair!

I was the Metro show the other night and what a beautiful night it was. I wasn't planning to go to blink over the Killers since I've seen the Killers in a festival setting, but the Metro show convinced me to split the time, so I checked out the first half of blink last night. I thought they sounded great both nights and were a ton of fun. I'm still a little annoyed they didn't play Parkin Lot at the Metro but the setlist at Lolla is exactly what I expected. Love this band so much.

I went to the pop up shop too and got a shirt and poster, but I'm still debating if I want to go back to get the blink Chicago flag.

If only that person could understand how much worse they would have sounded with Tom there instead of Matt.

BUT, I do think they could shake up the setlist more to make their shows more entertaining and less predictable for fans who've seen them before/countless times. It could, at least, make up some for the lack of banter finesse. I know this is a festival show, but are you really going to open with 'Feeling This' and go right into 'Rock Show' every single show now?

Exactly what choruses aren't catchy anymore? Lol at that article.

"Rhythms that used to snap and crackle with the interplay of Hoppus and DeLonge, are now just flat and lifeless, at times verging on metal."

This person has obviously been on AP and chorus talking about Tom's "charm" yes, their rhythms really snapped and crackled when Tom didn't care about sloppiness or enunciating. Have they watched a Tom performance since 2005?

I do have to say Mark seemed a little bored at times (or just had kind of a flat facial expression), but that could be how he's always performed, because I've honestly never seen close ups of his face before like I was able to at the Metro or with the huge screens at Lolla.

Whenever critics decide to comment on physical appearances... so much eye rolling and it's condescending.
But anyway, I think this band has been a bit stale since Neighborhoods. California is pretty divisive among fans and as mentioned a million times in this forum, their set is just tired.

I don't think they're that off-base. blink trots out the same set every show, their latest album, even if you like it, was a retread of a sound they've already done on several albums, and they are not and have never been a good live band. Travis is of course exceptional and they've increased in live quality a billion times over with Matt Skiba instead of Tom DeLonge but it's not like they're a unique and worthwhile live act. Fun, sure, but when you look at the landscape, even among their contemporaries, they don't exactly stand out as a special and interesting band in 2017. They're a nostalgia act. Nothing wrong with that if you like it but having seen them a few times now, I'm not sure it's worth the hassle of going to a crowded amphitheater and paying the not-insignificant ticket prices for the show I know I'm going to get. In a festival setting, forget about it, there are a million acts I'd rather see.
