So awesome that Max took the time to post in here. And it makes me so happy that he's now probably read some of my in depth opinions about his music. I will continue going to Say Anything shows and buying the albums for as long as he keeps having and making them.

It's good to hear for Max for sure. Even though I don't like IDTII, I still very much enjoy everything that's come before, and am excited to hear what's next. Hebrews is still very very good and was completely different from them. Maybe one day IDTII will click with me.

honestly, I'd be excited to hear Max talk about these lesser known songs and what they mean (b-sides and the "political" songs). especially how ISARB was made (like with the speaking parts, the arc, etc). He's never bothered me and I always liked how "jewish" but not really religious I guess Say Anything was.

Also I still like Self-Titled a lot. Especially Fed To Death, Do Better, Cemetery, Eloise, Mara & Me, She Won't Follow You. Again, those live sessions on myspace were fire!

also just in the chance he comes back, I thank Max for sticking up for "the genre" or "the scene" back when it was maybe the most un-hip it had been. I always appreciated that.

I love you guys. Thank you for letting me indulge myself and express myself to you. No judgement, endless appreciation and continue to like or not like what I do on YOUR terms. But I do appreciate the compassion

    Max,

Thank you for coming and contributing your thoughts to the thread. I can't speak for anyone but myself here but believe me when I say that your music has meant an inordinate amount to me since high school (2005) and even through to this very day. Your live shows have been some of my favorites I've ever attended. I think back to the co-headliner with STD where you played Is A Real Boy and they played Through Being Cool, specifically, as being a great time. I was there at the barricade in Jersey screaming along with everyone else to those songs. I have always appreciated how honest and genuine your lyrics are, because I know that you're baring your soul to us, something that can't be easy to do so explicitly. So thanks for all the amazing music and so many amazing memories as well. I am beyond stoked for the new record, will be listening on day one, and can't wait for the hype cycle to begin! Will Yip is going to kill it on the boards, btw.

Keep kicking ass and doing things your way. I know you will whether or not I (or anyone else) tells you to. You're one of the most unique voices in music today and nothing anyone says on a forum thread or on Twitter or anywhere else can take that away from you.

I can't say there isn't an album from Say Anything that I haven't enjoyed. Some have taken a bit for me to get into it, but with every album of their's, it depends on where I am in life and then bam, I'm hooked on it. And a shameless plug on the song shop that Max does. I've been very pleased with my three purchases over the years from him. Highly recommend.

My girlfriend, whose only STD is Through Being Cool, couldn't believe that was Conley on "Sorry Dudes."

Compared to something like In Reverie, or heck even TBC, his voice is much higher on that track. I wonder if it's on purpose.

His voice grew on me but I at first didn't like it either. Sorry Dudes is a really fun song imo

Sorry Dudes was a real fun song in 2007, its rather dorky in its execution now.

Is Chris Conley on the end of "Plea"? I forget who all has vocals in that end part ("Maybe someday we..."), I think it was Hayley, Chris and Kenny Vasoli - Say Anything's most epic minute or so for sure.

ok welll this post was moved from a different thread where i knew Max would not actually read it but since it got moved here i'll post a more thought out and less snarky version

i dont really like this band but I am Jewish have an opinion on the 'Jewish' songs "Died a Jew" and "Hebrews" and it is essentially:

The stuff about the complexity of Jewish identity and how there is some self-hatred seemingly built in, and how that interacts with the process of (Ashkenazi) Jewish-American assimilation into the white ruling class is really good and i feel it. Anti-zionism also good and I agree with it. Any comparison to the plight of African Americans or Native Americans or women is borderline at best and gets less applicable and more offensive the more specifically American and less European the conversation gets

I have no idea how hard it is to make money off a record but I thought he'd still be making money. I wonder if the last album was profitable

  25. Yes! Early next week. It's quite a long read and I felt like I needed a day or so away before returning to edit it, and then my band (Flower Crown) spent the past three days finishing our first LP, so I'm just now getting back to editing it. But it's coming, and it's an interesting read, I promise. And then I have the next interview lined up with someone on this site ;-)
