Finally started Warped. Definitely got the most nostalgia for this one.

 

I haven't gotten the game yet, probably will within the next week or so. I honestly never tried for any of the gems when I was younger, I think only by chance I got some from cracking all the boxes. What are the other ways?

 

Depends on which Crash game. The first Crash had colored gems that could only be obtained from beating the level without dying. In Cortex Strikes Back they introduced levels with two clear gems with some of those being obtained from taking secret paths or death paths which could only be accessed from having a perfect run up to a certain point in the level.

Some levels will require a colored gem for you to get access to certain areas that have crates that can only be found in there.

 

So it's pretty clear they are going to be pretty tough Platinum's!

 

The relics will be the hardest thing for me personally

 

Yeah, the bridge levels in 1 took me ages. I've done all the hard parts in the first one now though, just need to get a few of the easy gems/relics which I'll come back to after finishing Warped.

 

GameInformer did an interview with the original developer and they said initially (even before the original version) the bridge sections were meant to be MUCH harder and then they made it easier after testing.

 

Yeah Geoff Keighley did a panel with a lot of the original Crash team at E3 and they were talking about it. I honestly think they're great levels, haha. I can understand the frustration people have with them though, ha.

I feel like people should play this trilogy backwards, Warped is by far the easiest of the three.

 

As a kid Crash 2 felt way easier but now that I'm playing as an adult I can't believe I ever thought that, Warped is a breeze

 

Warped also gives you abilities like the bazooka and the double jump while Crash 2 brought the slide jump. In the original it's just you, your jump, and your spin.

 

Yeah Crash 2 has some really tricky sections.

 

You know, this is one of my favorite series of all time but i think I straight up dislike Crash 1. I am determined to get to the end and play in order but I am not even feeling feeling any sense of accomplishment when beating tough parts, just relief. I haven't felt this kind of rage toward a game since I was a kid lol. I know I keep saying it but I just can't get over this feeling of "cheap not challenging."

 

This Flawless Raider trophy is a pain in my ass.

 

Read a few pages back for my full thoughts but I think that's another thing we forget about with some of those older games that we want remastered. They were HARD AS HELL then and they will be HARD AS HELL now. Even with something like the new save feature, I am sure that still stands true, especially platformers.

 

The physics and controls have been updated. The actual challenging parts I feel I am decently good at - it's cheap deaths, i.e., spins not being close enough to kill enemies but close enough to cause you to make contact with them and die or wonky hit detection that makes you slide off of/fall behind platforms when jumping, that make this remaster so frustrating and un-fun, IMO. This person on reddit compared the remaster with the originals and seems to think they updated all three games to use the same jump physics as Warped instead of each game having its own physics like the original releases. That decision makes no sense when the rest of the game is left untouched - - the game and its obstacles/challenges are built around the physics it was released with but these remakes seem to use different/updated physics which leads to countless deaths and game overs that have nothing to do with your ability to complete the challenges the original developers put in the game.

 

I think I like Crash 1 more now than I did before. It doesn't feel cheap to me at all, just some very precise platforming. It might be my favourite of the three now with this version.

 

They've said they originally tried to make all three games feel the same but it didn't work so they changed it back. They all feel slightly different to me.

 

There are definitely a lot of mixed reviews out there for this game and it boils down to that you love it or hate it. I think that's true in this forum to some degree.

I think the main difference is whether or not you owned Mario 64 at the time that Crash happened ;D
