Oh shit, so it actually IS Jay-z related. Interesting! Last I saw it was confirmed to be a movie, but not actually Jay-z. Guess it is now!

 

Cautiously optimistic.

 

Honestly, I'm not expecting much but I'll give it a fair shot.

 

Album is going to be entirely produced by No I.D.

 

iirc all of no i.d.'s productions for jay are extremely dull

I don't know I'm cautiously optimistic that him coming back from hiatus after so long is because he thinks he has material that's worth it. It's not like him and Beyonce need the money. I liked MCHG more than most people though so I'll probably enjoy this no matter what.

 

They need the money in the race to become billionaires.

 

I still enjoy a fair amount of MCHG and he's had features since then that show he still has it in him somewhere, definitely intersted in this, even if it just brings a few great tracks

 

I thought MCHG was an absolute mess. BP3 wasn't much better. I have little hope for this and the fact that it's a Tidal exclusive means I may never even hear it.

 

Nothing good since American Gangster. Which is underrated. I think he's capable of pulling a rabbit out of a hat. We'll see.

 

Since American Gangster, I believe this has all been quality music from Jay

Gonna use this as an opportunity to finally listen to Jay's albums, which I've never heard a single one of in full (unless you count WTT)

I probably wouldn't start for a few weeks but would anyone be interested in me writing some brief thoughts after each one? I perfectly understand if nobody wants this lol but I know he has quite a few highly regarded albums

The Black Album is my personal favorite, although I'll admit Jay has been very hit and miss for me throughout his career and now that I think back, mostly miss.

Most people view The Blueprint as being his classic album (as well as Reasonable Doubt), but I honestly find it overrated, some great tracks on it, but not worthy of classic status imo. I think everything in between RD and Blueprint was really bad (In My Lifetime, Vol 1, 2 and Dynasty). I'm also a Nas stan, so during their beef, I really hated Jay Z, haha. But I remember not liking the albums before Blueprint when they were released and that was all before the Nas/Jay feud.

BP2 wasn't that good imo, and Kingdom Come wasn't much better. I do really like American Ganster, which is perhaps is most underrated album.

 

I didn't realize 99 Problems was originally an Ice-T song.
