The Owl City hate was so intense and random, Good Time is a jam and not just because of Carly

 

It's also because of Matt Thiessen.

 

the sound effects and the lyrics and the motifs on Ocean Eyes are all terrible if we're being objective, but it's speaking to me like few albums have recently.

haven't heard anything else by him, don't think he was ever much of a thing outside the US

Have never been that into Owl City outside of that song Designer Skyline, which was my jam in like 2007 lol

 

Honestly I only ever heard that fireflies song from him. I didn't have that much hate towards him, I would just want to listen to the Postal Service instead.

 

"Umbrella Beach" is the catchiest shit though

 

I enjoyed his song with Mark Hoppus when it was released. Looking back, I think I mostly enjoyed it because his voice slightly resembled Tom's haha

 

The fella from Owl City, Adam Young, did this really cool orchestral project where he scored real-life events like the sinking of the Titanic or the ascent of Everest or whatever. He did lots.

Album covers were super cool too. Worth a cursory listen for sure. All Scores - Adam Young Scores

 

Ocean Eyes is a very fun, silly (which is fine when it's what you intend) album. I would find it very hard to hate.

Also "The Bird and the Worm" is a legitimately charming, good song.

I feel like it's faded for most people but honestly 22, A Million just keeps getting better for me. I think about that album every week.
